Trivia

I've been wondering about certain things and haven't been able to get the info anywhere.

1. When did McDonald's introduce McNuggets, Quarterpounder, Double Quarterpounder and its BigMac to the US market?

2. When did most cars in the US first start coming with radial tires and not bias ply.

3. When did cars first come with seat belts and headrests?

4.What was the most expensive model Mercedes imported into the US in 1970 and how much did it cost back then ?

5. When did coast to coast nonstop flights first start in the US?

#1 Big Mac introduced in '68 (same year as hot apple pie), Quarter pounder introduced in 1973, Chicken McNuggets in 1983, couldn't find double quarter pounder info, but my guess is later than 1973.

#2 no idea

#3 Volvo introduced and marketed 3 point seat belts in the 50s, but there was no SAE standard until '61 . in '62 some U.S. manufacturers provide lap belts in front outboard positions (23 States have laws to requires belts in front, most effective 1/64) In '61 all mercs had front seat belts

#4 I'm going to say it was the 600 Pullman or Laundellete and Guess over $20k

#5 no idea

420sel where did you get that McDonalds info? Did McDonalds introduce new products in both the US and Canada at the same time? Do McDonalds and these other fast food places have an area of the country where they like to test market new ideas?
I had just assumed for some reason the quarter pounder came before the big mac.
20,000 was a lot of money for a car back then

I got the McDonalds info from McDonalds.com they have a company history from 1948 to 2000. The happy meal was introduced in 1979, a year before Birdie (the most dispised McD's mascot) was introduced. The years are for US release, but I think Canada was the same. From info I get from www.m-100.org the 600 would have been priced over $25k in the 60s, maybe more by 1970 depending on the version and degree of customization.

Don't know about the rest, but the most expensive Mercedes WAS the 600. My Nitske books says

in October 1969 (1970 model)

Limousine $23,580
Pullman $26,953

October 1970 (1971 model)

Limo (east coast) $25,707 (west coast) $25,920
Pullman (east coast) 29,385 (west coast) $29,617

Looks like prices jumped up in '71

limo (east coast) $32,695
Pullman (east coast) $37,928
