Question about XP 98 network?
Well there seemes to be some good computer minds out there so I wil give this question a shot.
I upgraded to XP pro on my computer but left the server and the storage computer with 98. Well after I did that I couldnt see anything on the network but I could still get online. It wasnt a big deal because I use the internet more than the network but tonight everything stopped the switch still sees me but no internet no nothing. Any ideas why or on how I should fix it without scrwing up the holw network? thanks Dan |

Its simple dan....
were you running NETBEUI as your local network protocol? if so, XP does not have netbeui anymore. thats your problem. if you didn't, and had it setup with tcp/ip, makesure netbios is enabled for tcp/ip, and that the computers are int he same ip range and have the same subnet mask. If the multiple IP's for your internet acccess are provided by the ISP, then you will have to add IPX/SPX network protocol for your local networking. If you have a Windows XP Actual CD, it will have a folder ont he disc with a copy of netbeui to use, but Microsoft does not recommend using it. Feel free to chat me on MSN and I will try my best to assist you. I suspect its just a protocol issue. Alon
