w124 300E best car ever—Car Magazine

The November 2002 issue of Car magazine, the 40th anniversary issue, cites the 300E as one of the 8 best cars of the last 40 years. they say as follows:

You could argue that the W124 E-class is still the best all-round saloon in the business. A product of the engineering-led Daimler Benz rather than the marketing-led DaimlerChrysler, it was tough, durable (early transmission glitches apart) and enormously capable. Four cylinders and diesels were slow, but the six-cylinder offered smoothness and pace.

McLaren F1

In the Decmber issue Gavin Green argues that the W124 TE cars are the best cars ever (but he is a bit of a fan).
