I'd sell my soul for this car.

Supercharged 560SEL. And it's in Seattle, too.

Why do I have to be a financially strapped college student!?!? ARRGH!

I'd be really skeptical about that mileage!! That's about 4,000 miles a year!!

Sweet! But I'd like it better if he'd left it stock looking. I like a sleeper! Better to surprise the Camaro next to you!

Look at the bright side. There is no where within 40 miles you could use that performance for more than half a block or so! Dang, it!

Heh, but once I get that thing past Issaquah on I-90, look out!

I bet it'll push 155-160, but not 180. I'm sure it eats driveline components like crazy, but what if one put the stock grill back on, and put "300SDL Turbo Diesel" badges on it? Heh heh heh.

Now your talking!
Hey Eric, I bet you could find a few places out your way to "clear the pipes"!

Oh and so much so! A 4 lane superslab. Only bad news is that it is mostly up hill.

The more the toys the more the maintainance. But it's nothing that a trip your local Renntech shop couldn't solve after a fassion or 2

He states that you could pull Vipers with it. Not on your life. This car would need 750+ horsies and a Viper driver with an inept shift elbow.

The M117 is one strong mill, but tripling it's output isn't likely. From 238 to 400? Could do, but this is still a 4000lb+ machine.

I think it's Stemilt Road. I know people would race there when I was in High School, and I know people who have gone very fast down the hill. I am sure Sam knows the places I am talking about and some of the people.
Malaga-Alcoa Highway, that's all I've got to say. One guy I went to high school with got a 380SL to do 115 out there. Another guy I know took a Maxima up to 130, and said that it felt "very floaty".

I pegged the needle on the Volvo 740 Turbo out near Quincy once (120 mph).

A guy who graduated two years before me at WHS got killed when the Hyundai he was riding in left a corner on Stemilt Hill Rd. at a high rate of speed. Not too surprising, there's some corners at the bottom of the hill (after a really long straightaway).

Yeah, with the V-10 running on six cylinders and a clogged catalytic converter, too.

I know someone who claims to have gone 168 mph down Stemilt Hill Rd. in his Porsche 928. This guy has also wrecked a few nice MB's in the last few year. He totaled a nice CLK 430 a few months ago.
Does he have a black or white 928, by any chance?

If so, I may have seen it around the area (last summer, when I was visiting the parents several times).

Weight has nothing to do with top speed. It's a function of aerodynamic drag and horsepower. And not to insult W126 drivers, but the car is a "brick" by today's standards.

Horsepower reuired to increase your top speed is the square of the speed increase. Want to go 10mph faster? You need 100 extra ponies. This is not a precise calculation, but one durned close rule of thumb.

Since a 238hp 560SEL can rip the pavement to 145mph before running out of steam, it would need ONLY another 1225hp to make 180mph. Most people have no idea of just how hard it is to overcome drag. It's usually a better idea to lessen drag than to make more power. Of course, you can do both. Look at the C32AMG. .27cd with 345hp. The car can make serious speed cause it has lots of ponies and is very slippery.

One other thing I think this fellow has not considered is gearing. There is no way the stock final drive of the 560SEL would allow it to make 180mph. Anyone know why a W124 E500 is limited to a little over 160mph? Gearing. And with 322hp and better gearing, I seriously doubt an E500 can hit 180mph. Would be tough, no doubt. Mercedes' cars generally don't have super tall final drive ratios or extreme overdrive top gears. They geared the cars for highway performance. Especially true of cars of this era.

Next thing is those wide tires. They INCREASE drag. Wider tires can easily add .01 to your cd.

180mph? Sure, if dropped out of an airplane and achieved a nose down attitude...
