80's Music

For those 80's fans out there like me, what is your favourite group/artist of the 80's?

Some of mine are:

Tears for Fears
Simple Minds
Alphaville
Corey Hart
The Police

They also all get played in the MB!!

Have a hard time picking a fav from the 80's. I really liked the 80's, it was refreshing after some of the 70's crap(anyone remember Disco Duck?:p ) I did always wish Frankie Goes to Hollywood did more, but their stuff was really out in the ozone
I think David Bowie actually did some of his best stuff then, too. Dang, I can't pick just one, or even a few!
Pat Benatar
Blondie
Talking Heads
Stevie Ray Vaughn
it goes on...........

Can't forget Dire Straits! I have trouble calling them an "'80's band", but many of their hits (Money For Nothing, Walk of Life, etc) were done in the '80's...

Once you realize that Debbie Harry's actually making fun of disco, Blondie's not bad...

I mostly stick to 60's and 70's rock n' roll, though

I do have to admit that I'm a product of the '80's myself, though...born in '81...

There are so many awesome artists out of that time. Although I have had people my age tell me they thought the 80's had some of the worst music ever. Of course I totally disagree, it seemed very eclectic then.

My favorite rock groups were Def Leppard (who I just saw and they are still killer in concert) and Guns n Roses (saw Axl's revamped group in LV last year, best concert I ever saw). I always have Appetite for Destruction in my car.

Tears for Fears was one of my favorite groups on the lighter side in that era. Roland Orzabal's "Elemental" album (As TFF, but he was the only remaining member) was probably the most spiritual and pretty albums I've ever heard. Although that was released in 93 or so. He also has a great solo album out (2001) named "Tomcats screaming outside" that is trip hop influence to it. I love that album too.

There were so many one hit wonders that were fun to. I loved all the hairbands, all the new wave, I loved it all. I loved "safety dance" by Men without Hats that was a great song. Too many great artists to list.

Whitesnake, Devo, Ratt, George Michael (Wham! too), Bruce Springstein, Pat Benetar, Wang Chung, Beastie Boys, Run DMC, Corey Hart, ABC (awesome band), The Police/Sting, A-ha, Phil Collins.....

Disco Duck was Rick Dees wasn't it?

I DJ'ed lots of parties back then, so I like a lot of artists from the 80's.

Back then, Michael Jackson could still be regarded as a talented and good-looking black male artist...

A lot of 60s and 70s artists had success with good releases in the 80s.

King Crimson
Steve Winwood
Pete Townsend
Robbie Robertson
Sting
Peter Gabriel
Phil Collins
Mike Rutherford
Ian Anderson
Heart

Other artists
Squeeze
The Pretenders
REM
U2

I think the Disco era forced these guys to work harder. Getting Disco off the air took a lot of work. I, for one, am glad they succeeded.

Elvis Costello!!!!

Oh wait, is he 80's? or 70's? Or 90's? I guess he's just
timeless.
