Selling my 420 - need advice
I thinking about selling my 1991 420 SEL to buy a 1989 SL. My car has 163K miles and runs nicely - completed the 155K service last year, but the sunroof is jammed (shut) and one of the rear windows won't close once it's opened. Paint is not original, but it still has a nice burgundy finish with a couple of scrapes. The chrome wheels are peeling quite a bit. What do you think I should ask for my car? Should I get the work done before putting it on the market or should I just discount it for "as is" sale.

The sunroof thing could be bigger than you think. In alot of cases the teeth have come off the cable and it can just be replaced. However, there is a plastic tube that guides the cable that goes all the way along the roof and into the trunk. If that tube is crimped it needs to be replaced which involved ripping out the headliner and everything. I am told it is a full day's job plus parts. I was quoted over $1500 to do it on my 420SEL, needless to say I left it closed. If you find someone who likes the car and can live without a sunroof its no big deal as long as it doesn't leak and isn't too noisey. Personally I would be up front about the problems and discount the price of the car. You might find someone who can fix it themselves or live with it, but if you fix them yourself you'll never get even half what you spend out of it.
