the benz got hyperthermia today!!

Well only made it halfway to school today when exiting on the ramp and poof the car died. It was a very cold morning (-3F for the americans) and what happened was where the air mixes with the gas inside that big metal air filter compartment, ice was created and blocked it. This happened once a few yrs ago so thats how I knew where to look. Called the tow truck and upon waiting for the truck, the car started 20min later! I guess I got "jinxed" by that post in the tech help section about how great benzes are in winter.

In my opinion, this should not happen and the only way to prevent it is to put an ugly cover of some sort over the grill. What I did on the way home upon restarting it was avoiding the highway where the higher winds get into the engine compartment. Did this happen to anyone else?

Some vehicles channel hot air from an area like the exhaust manifold to avoid this problem. It can even happen in warm conditions. I believe my Dodge 413 truck engine has some such device.

Benzman500 has just suggested to me offline, that when its this cold to take off the air tube extension that sucks the air straight from the grill area so then it will get warmer air.

What is everyones opinion?

Thank u Dan!!
