Electric Dog PErimeter Fence...
We just bought one of those electric perimeter fences witht he shock collar for our dogs. Needless to say, the dogs got themselves quite a shock, and have remained inside the safe zone ever since.
Its kind of awkward having these collars that will shock the dogs, it makes me feel somewhat inhumane, but my dogs are just hanging around the property, and wont go near the line now. Amazing how something they say requires training can discipline some old doggies in one shock. My one dog ran to it, got a shock, dropped his ball, and now wont leave the driveway. even with coaxing he wont move more than a few feet. I'll keep you all posted as to the results. I hope my dog is not broken now. granted, there is a training process, but my dogs are the kind that like to roam the neighborhood, and after my initial results, I dont think they need to do anymore training. it seems they have "learned where they cant go already". Anyone have any opinions on these devices? Anyone with bad results? Anyone with results as expected? Just trying to see if the $ was worth it. Alon

Something similar might be a useful tool for a moderator in this forum. It'd avoid having to exile people.

Which is more humane ? Getting a shock... or getting run over by a car, shot by a neighbor tired of the dog using their yard, killing their animals etc...
I think those are the best thing since sliced bread for your dog's long happy life.... |

Invisible fences are the most humane...
way to keep your dog healthy. Leathermang summed it up very well. Our 9 year old golden retriever has been shocked only about five times in his life and he just knows where he can go. We put him in the car to take him out of the yard, because he won't go beyond his boundary any other way.

my dog LOVES the invisible fence.
she will run around the yard and get right up near the edge to the point where it gives the warning beep and hang out there. but that's because we trained her like the manual suggested. she had to learn the difference between an actual shock tone and a warning tone. on occasion she will blast through the fence to catch a squirrel. the bad part about that is she doesn't want to return because she will get shocked again. one day i went outside and saw her sleeping at the edge of the yard with her collar going BEEP BEEP BEEP with the warning. before this dog though, our other dog would only hug the house because she was so afraid, thats' why we were careful about training the new dog. eric

Eric.... ... when I first started reading your post I was about to tell you your dog was a Masochist... LOL... if it liked to get shocked...but that is a funny story ... seems to be comforted by the beeping....Maybe it needs some new toys or it is easily entertained.... a very good thing...

We tried that...
My guy kept trying to go outside without permission so I bought one of those deals. Unfortunately he was not a fast learner like those poochies, so he's pretty much catatonic these days. The constant twitching is kinda cool though.

Amanda, your dog is catatonic because two people chain smoke in your house ... it is called carbon monoxide poisoning and black lung desease....

Electric dog fence
This has to be the most inhumane way of animal control.
Animals should be schooled and trained as to where they are allowed to to go Keep them with you ,train them , they will respond Ashman To the wood shed with you . Place this device on your body and walk beyond the border, see how you like. I sure would not DD |

actually I have tested the shock myself, its a little jolt, but they do have more powerful collar units.
My dogs are doing just fine and are actually happier because they can roam the yard and not be cooped up. Alon

We had great success with our invisible fence. Was the only way we could let our short haired pointer stay outside where he wanted to be during the day.
Be sure to replace the collar batteries on schedule. Dogs will test the system by intent or accident and be gone a roaming when they discover "the gate is open." We got a good laugh when we first installed the "fence." We put up the sign that announced the "Invisible fence" so neighbors and dog catchers would know dog was not running free. Next day we noticed workmen were high stepping over the line of widely spaced tempory flags marking the perimeter as they entered and exited the yard! True Story!
