Sports & Collectibles Car salesman?

I was offered a part-time job today with the fellow I bought the CE from.He works by himself and is tied to the car lot 7 days a week,he wants me to help him on the weekends. He said he would teach me the biz and pay me a commission on any cars I sell.I'm a construction surveyor by trade so this would be a whole new ball of wax for me.What do you guys think ?BTW, he is a reputable dealer who has been named Dealer of the Year a couple of times by the Dupont registry and I won't have to wear a polyester suit :D

I'd go for it Kyle. You can always survey Mon-Fri. You seem to enjoy car stuff and it never hurts to learn another vocation/career.

Kyle,
I am in the car business and I will tell one thing is it's not easy. People have hundreds of questions before buying a car and most of them end up not buying anything and just wasting your time. I would say give it a shot but be ready to bend over backwards just to make a deal. You have nothing to lose. Good Luck. Let us know if you take the job and how it goes.

sounds like a fun thing to take on. yeah you will probably have to answer lots of questions from looky-loo's, but you will get serious buyers as well.

I myself would do it, but I'm not in your neck of the woods.

I could not have said it better myself. I'm with you all the way. But do not forget that people like Cap'n Carageous do exist in this world (unfortunately).

Thanks for the feedback guys, and Eric I think that will be my main problem (being too honest),that's probably why I haven't been able sell the 'stang. I think I'm going to tell him I'll go for it and see how it goes.If nothing else I'll get a chance to drive some very:cool: cars, and for a guy who's been car crazy all his life ( did I ever tell ya my first toy car was a gullwing ) it should be a lot of fun.

Kyle,

Honesty and truth always prevail, maybe not at the precise moment but in the long run it will prevail no matter what you do in life. Forget what the Capt said. If you want to sell cars on the weekend or all week long be the best you can be and do it where you can look in the mirror and say "Today I was honest and did the best I could do." It is nice to be able to live with yourself when you go home profit or no profit for the day. My 2 cents.

Robert those are wise words and I cannot agree with you more! I've worked two weekends now and sold 2 vehicles (non MB's :( )so far. I like the no-dicker sticker and no BS on the lot, although some people just don't get it.I have had a couple of conversations that went like this- "how flexible are you on the price?" "That's the price on the window sticker" "No seriously, are you willing to drop the price?" " No that's the price, but we can go up from there if you like, we have custom wheels that would fit or perhaps a warranty." That's the way cars should be sold :) .If you like the car and the price then buy it, if not go somewhere else.No BS, no lying, just cars. Now I know why I bought my CE there and didn't feel like I'd been sodomized. If anyone is interested in a car and would like to give us a chance to make you happy, feel free to PM or E-mail me.
