Go ask Bill Wood to close this forum

...it is useless the way it is going.

"If the matter persists, we will recommend to Bill Wood to close the open forum permanently."

From the newly annointed Thought Police.

I never thought that a law and order kind of guy like myself would ever openly advocate "forum anarchy." But unless we find the Mason jar where the moderators are attempting to keep our gonads under lock and key (for an explanation of this reference, go rent, or buy, American Beauty) this forum won't be worth much anyway.

I don't know who Bill Wood is, but Bill, if you are reading this, either close the forum and let's all go back to discussing how often and how hot to change the oil. Or, on the other hand, throw out the moderators who are trying to hijack the forum and, by fiat, impose their will and return this forum to the free-wheeling, fun place that it used to be.

Peace out!

Alright 'Little Mister'

Comments like THAT can get you a 7 day 'timeout'!! :p

Ashman 01-30-2003 03:45 PM

The open forum is already on thin ice. Personally I do not want to see the open section of this site go, but members are making a tremendous amount of work for us. Every day I get several reports from other memebers on offensive threads.

The moderators are not going to tolerate misconduct, plain and simple.

If people don't want censors, then don't give us reasons to censor things.

We the moderators volunteer our time to keep this forum running as smoothly as possible. We do not get anything in return for our assistance, except a thank you from Bill wood, donnie, lee, and phil, for using our own time to help this site.

When everyone signed up for an account with this site, they agreeded to terms and conditions. when those terms and conditions are violated, action will be taken.

Alon

TxBill...

...amen!

Alon, the problem is not the rules. We all have to live by rules, whetehr we like them or not. It is only when the rules are interpreted unfairly, capriciously and inconsistently, that we have problems.

Should they conduct themselves to a higher standard and refrain from sarcasm when shutting a thread down. Sure. But let's remember, we do not have a constitutional right to post what we wish. We are posting on Bill Wood's dime. If we don't like the manner that the moderation is being conducted, then we can vote with our feet and torment the moderators at MBCanada, or another site.

We're guests. Let's try to keep our feet off the coffee table.:D

I just wish they (moderators) wouldn't cuss so much and tell us we're stupid, and then close the thread!!
:p :p

But I agree, we need to repsect Bill's house. His housekeepers just seem a little immature.;)

Cap'n Carageous 01-30-2003 04:08 PM

How bout this??

We get some old guy to help them out!! Or start a "Frontier Open Forum" like the wild west!! If you don't want to hear truth or opinion or poke fun at stupidity, then STAY OUT!!;)

BENZ-LGB 01-30-2003 04:09 PM

There is always a third alternative...

"I think you are asking for more wisdom and "moderation" from these individuals than can be reasonably expected. I think we have to like it or lump it." PaulC

Paul: We can always try changing it. This forum ran quite well until just recently. What is wrong with a return to the status quo?

TxBill: I love your quote from South Park. I used to dislike the show till my kids taught me about all the nuances. Good call!

Ashman 01-30-2003 04:10 PM

sorry about that. got my users mixed up....

IN anycase, none of you cannot tell me that things have been getting out of hand with posts.

Now that we have set specific guidelines, everyone seems to want to push those limits.

I myself have put two and a half years of my time moderating and reading posts on this site. I have seen what it was, and what it has become. Those of you that have been here for a long time, know that posts were rarely deleted or even edited, but recently, you have all seen what has been happening with posts.

I'm all for freedom of speech, and every other freedom we are allowed, but just like television, there are certain things you cannot say or do.

the last month in this forum has gotten out of hand. I have never in my time on this site, seen so many people get out of line.

I myself am almost at the end of my rope, and am getting fed up with the attitudes of many on this forum, and I am not naming names, because those people know who they are. If things persist in this downward direction, I will just give up. I don't need to waste my time on a lost cause.

I love this site for the technical information, and until recently, I also loved it for the community we have, but lately its become a war zone.

So to all those that want to keep pushing the limits, and disrespecting a few simple guidelines, please stop, you are ruining the experience for many, especially me.

Thats all I have to say,

Alon

Any bets on how long this one lasts? I say less than an hour.

The Godfather 01-30-2003 04:12 PM

Ditto on Alon's post.

Cap'n Carageous 01-30-2003 04:15 PM

What happened to Moderator #3?

Cap'n Carageous 01-30-2003 04:20 PM

Too bad, he only got to close about 37 threads!!:p

Come on, you know what I meant (obviously since you pointed it out).

BENZ-LGB 01-30-2003 04:25 PM

Paul...I think you're missing the point...

...free-wheeling debate is healthy and it is good for all of us. That's how you separate the wheat from the chaff. Look, many months ago I made some ill-advised crack about user "BillyBob" and people named like that who hail from Arkansas. He called me on it, I reconsidered it and I apologized. End of discussion.

We are all big boys (and big girls) here. We can figure out the playground's boundaries without someone constantly nagging about rules or going off on some weird Napoleonic trip (see, there is that French thing again, although if truth be told, Napoleon was Corsican, and not French) claiming to be THE Boss here...blah...blah..blah....

C'mon, who needs that kind of attitude among adults? Might as well plant electronic sensors in our keyboards to shock us, like an electric fence, every time we have a deviant, non-PC thought.

By the way, I think that this thread will soon be closed, so enjoy.
