I Found The Wife A Big Suv!!!

in this little beauty. A 1972 206D - MB's answer to the early "big" SUV:). Approximately 65k miles, four speed manual, 4 cyl diesel "industrial" engine. The ride is front wheel drive and has a single leaf, leaf spring suspension. You can see MB designed into everything related to the drive and suspension.
I think I can get it "starmarked";). Seating arrangement looks like it could be between 12-18 people based on which country it is used in. It is for sale by a fella that lives about 8 miles from me. He started it up and that little diesel sounded great:). Wonder what the 0-60 time is with 13 passengers:)?

The wife is going to be so proud!!! I can't wait to tell her:).

Like the new Beetle commercial -- 0-60, yes.

I ain't told her yet - was going to mention it this evening:):).

Here is a shot of the engine - man you could make this thing into a sweet 1972 Sprinter:) RV/camper type of machine:).

The guy is wanting $4k but I believe if you went over there with a little green he would part with it. Oh yea, it is set up to run on wvo. It is a really NEAT ride:).

Congrats!

Nice vehicle!

If you need any help tracing parts, please let me know.

Kind regards
Eberhard

LOL - Eberhard I might get shot or at the very least get run out of the house if I brought home something like for the wife:). I am going to mention it and see what she says.

Are these vehicles still being built/used?

Eberhard Weilke 02-04-2003 05:32 PM

As far as I know, they are not produced any more:)

Even the predecessor, the MB 100, went out of production to make way for the Vito and V-Class.

But the MB 100 was a nightmare :)

The 206 is a pretty nice vehicle. Don't expect any acceleration or topspeed.

BTW: The T1 model is still in production in India under the brand of Tempo: http://www.tempoindia.com/htmlsite/index.html

The bigger 508 is still in production in Iran at Iran Kohdro:

So, if you still want one, you just have to shop around a little bit :)

Kind regards

BTW:

Even the good old "Kurzhauber" is available from Iran Kohdro:

The engine on the inside on the driver's foot-space?

Can't be right, could it?

mikemover 02-04-2003 07:46 PM

That's the coolest, Jim!...How do you always find those gems? Wish I had the extra $$ for it right now. :(

Tell the wife it would be great for family vacations! ;)

Kerry - the engine cover was pulled to allow the pic. This thing is at least as big as a Sprinter! There were four or five rows of seats in the back. I mean it is huge. There is plenty of room for the drivers legs.
