Colin Powell for...

...President! I listened to major portions of Powell's presentation to the U.N. Security Council. AWESOME. He has proved the case against Iraq BRD---beyond a reasonable doubt.

His presentation was rich in facts. Every conclusion was supported by the evidence. And even though some of the evidence is circumstantial, circumstantial evidence is more than sufficient to convict in a court of law.

Good job!

I read thru the report on Fox news' web site:
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,77624,00.html
If these other (unnamed) countries don't get on board with the facts, there's a mess a trouble ahead!

Well of course! Do you think Bush was fabricating all this? For all those who think this is going to be a long operation I have three things to say.

1. 1991
2. Afaganistan
3. My bomb says hi! from a peace loving American!

Anyone who doesn't understand why certain countries are in opposition to action against Iraq just has to research which countries do the most commercial trade with Iraq, and which ones have the highest investment in Iraqi oil supply, production, and refinement operations under the present regime - for exploration, operations, equipment sales, and purchase of the oil. A regime change is an unknown to their balance sheets.

No I didn't, but others sure were having a problem. But putting myself in their shoes, I guess I too would be a bit hesitant to jump on the train until I saw "the proof".(JCE has a valid point) Let's just hope it's enough for them now.

Nice to have a magazine source - I hadn't seen your thread. About a month ago a friend and I were wondering why the major opposition from 3 countries in Europe, and we did a little web diving. We could have saved time by reading Business Week, LOL.

I just heard that...

...France's representative has gone on record as saying that France is not satisfied with the US's proof. France wants to give the UN inspectors more time.

My question is:

More time to do what? More time for Saddam to play hide and seek? More time for Saddam to build more weapons? More time for France's lucrative oil contracts to run a little longer? More time for France to sell Iraq more of their worthless Mirage jets? More time for France's je ne se quoi to work its magic on on Saddam?

With all due respect to the Francophiles lurking amongs us, but what an absolute waste of prime real estate?

I can't wait to hear from Schroder and his equally ineffective government.

Pew!!!

I thought he made the point a few times, but he should have stopped at a few. Some of it was still a version of he said/she said, especially the parts about Iraq's credibility.

He sure is a much better public speaker than W, I'll give him that. I wonder why he's not called upon to speak more on behalf of the White House.

Powell has always been in an uncomfortable position with the Bush administration. Even before his recent conflict over affirmative action, administration policy has limited what the Sec. of State has been allowed to do. Powell has been used to "put fires out" after White House policy has inflammed the rest of the world. He's a great man, but he's not a real insider in the Bush team.

They showed some poll this morning on CNN.. it asked who do you trust to make our policy with respect to Iraq.... it was about 75% Powell and 25% Bush...
I think we need a draft Powell movement...he is not likely to run against Bush.

What I think is really funny........

The most powerful man on the face of the planet... George W. Bush does not even hold sway IN HIS OWN HOUSE....On one of the most central platforms of his party..... Laura Bush is prochoice (so is Powell).... I love Laura Bush... a real tribute to Texas raised women... don't ask them their opinions unless you really want to hear it....

I should stay the hell out of this thread. I'm not real politically saavy. But what the heck.
About 8 or 10 years ago when "they" were trying to get Powell to run for pres, I'd have voted for him in a second. No question. But I'm thinking maybe he was right when he exspressed the opinion that he could basically do more good outside of the presidency. Don't think that was exactly how he put it, but that's what I remember getting from the some of the reasons he gave for not running. And now, I can't help but feel he's in the right position now.
Bush, well.... I don't really think he's so bad. I agree with alot of his positions. But have we EVER had a president that everyone agreed with all the time? Ever? Not really. Nor are likely to ever have one. Even if Powell did become president, he'd ruffle someones feathers somewhere. (Kind of like being a forum moderator now that I think about it )
