Any opinions on the Audi S4? (not the latest)

I tried to do a search but S4 was under the letter limit for this forum's search

So anyone have any opinions on this car? Saw one on the road and I was just blown away...might be a nice little car for 2 adults :-) Plus I was amazed at when the driver nailed the gas (no I wasn't racing).....the car just disappeared as if I was standing still.

Nice rides. The quattro system is really nice and helps greatly in the handling department.

Wait for the V8 S4, though (if you like torque).

I had the chance to drive one, and to this date, this is the car I had the most fun driving, EVER! (Considering I have driven $150k+ cars, this is really something!)

The car's quattro system makes it so fun to take corners, and the turbos..ohhh man, 250hp of fun! I was told that a simple chip and minor little upgrades (exhaust/intake?) could bump that to 300hp easily.

Needless to say, stock as it was is WOAH! I was in 4th gear at 115mph! With 2 more gears to go!

I also drove the S4avant, which was slightly modded (dontknow the mods) and it was just as fun! I love these cars!

But they are small for me. Basically, don't expect to sit behind me!

Check out www.audiworld.com for lots of material. Maintenance shouldn't be that extraordinary, as the engine is the same one used in thousands of A6 2.7t's and the quattro is the standard A4 system. If handling is your primary concern, remember that the V6 over the front wheels weighs more than a chipped 1.8t that you can get to a similar horsepower level without many mods (then again you can also chip the 2.7t...).

One nice consideration if you need the space is that you can find plenty of S4 Avant's (i.e. wagons), a style that's unavailable in M3's or (at least I think) AMG C's.

I have a really bad impression of Audi reliability. It was made even worse by the New York Times automobile section article about how Audi has tried to cover up a massive defect dealing with ignition coils, which might result in VW having to recall a half million cars. Also, my friend took me for a ride in his 2002 Passat and for no apparent reason (his car was manual transmission), the thing revved all the way up to redline (in neutral, pulling out of my driveway) by itself for atleast 5 seconds. Scary stuff. I'd stay away from the Audi and give the BMW 330xi a try. I have a new E46 convertible and really think it's the greatest.
