Question Best computer speakers?

Hey guys/gals:
Been offline for a few weeks since I moved, with very limited internet access till I get married to the other computers in the house. (And they say MEN have commitment issues!!)

I'm lookin' to add decent speakers to my computer. I'm interested in speakers with nice sound, but don't want to spend a lot of money. Computer gaming is not an issue, they would be used primarily for listening to music. Any recommendations?

Thanks!

Thumbs up

A while ago...probably 5 or 6 years ago, I bought a set of 3-piece speakers called Cambridge SoundWorks SoundWorks, and I loved them...I've noticed that this set is still bein' sold by CS, but I noticed that the quality is not the same as it was before...I was briefly checking a new one out in the store, and it seemed to be more "plasticy" and not as solid...I guess after Henry Kloss passed away, the company's direction just changed...

I notice that they have a few higher end speakers since I bought mine...you might check them out...I have always found them to be wonderful...I find 3-piece speakers to be a nice setup for a computer...I was never into these FIVE, SIX, SEVEN...I dunno how many speakers...systems that they are selling for computers nowadays...but I recommend you check out some of the systems from Cambridge SoundWorks...

i think it really boils down to how much u want to spend

the Monsoons are good but u have to be right at your computer...it doesn't sound well if ur not within the sweet spot of the speaker

i think for the money the Klipsch Promedia 4.1 is real nice, its very clear across the range

i think they sell @ Circuit City for $200....this is real nice because i know the Promedia 2.1 sells for $175 or something

Thanks for the advice guys!

I think I'll do what you said and take a disc to the store and check them out that way. I don't mind spending more money of needed to get decent sound, especially since I'll be using them for editing videos later on and they're a business expense. Thanks again for the advice!

I have computer speakers from about 2 dozen different manufacturers including Monsoon and Harman Kardon. Monsoon are speakers that are for "loud" listening; as they can exceed 100 db but if you want to listen to soft quiet classical music, I would not use them. In my office, I have a 3-Piece Benwin flat panel set and they are superb for low volume soft music. Currently on my computer, I am using a Boston Acoustics digital speakers set and they offer the best of both worlds. A good set of speakers that will last should cost upwards of a $100 don't spend less than that sum.

yamaha makes a nice 3 piece system, with great sound. I bought them for my brother a couple of years back, and yamaha still sells them. IT has an 8" woofer I think, the bass hits nice and hard and deep, and its very loud.

I would definately recommend the yamaha.

Otherwise you can always go with other brands like harmon kardon etc etc.

The yamaha's should be average priced.

Get the ones I have! 400W THX certified, 4.1. They're logitech Z560. Cost me $200 at best buy about a year ago.

Now they have the new Z680 out, 5.1 and it's off the hook!!!

If you are thinking of investing some money into good PC speakers, you might want tot go a little further and get a good sound card. Just a thought

I have a set of Bose computer speakers that sound pretty good. They don't have the deep thumping base if that's what your looking for but they are well rounded and can be played loud. They go for $100.00 at any Bose store.
