german license plate

Found a German license plate at an antique mall (in Cashmere) over the weekend. Don't know what I'll do with it, but thought it was kinda cool. I'll hang it on the car at GTG's I guess:D

That is the old style plate for cars which were exported.

Not so rare.

Kind regards
Eberhard
(who had to explain some people that we do not have oval plates in Germany)

That's cool! Unfortunately this state requires a valid plate both front and rear. :(

so does calirfornia... but my euro plate has the same letters and numbers as my california plate. I've had several police officers look at it, see my back plate and give me the thumbs up.

Even CHP has seen it and checked my back plate and given me the ok. Maybe I'm just lucky.

The one good thing about this state is the fact you don't have to have any front license plate. Like the clean look myself.

and even a car with with German Plates front and back
Pretty simple: Put the car into a boat, get extra insurance (other than Aserbeidschan, the US doesn't accept european insurances) and I can drive around up to six month within the states.

Then one short trip across the canadian border and another six month...

Some people did that with their campervans.

Kind regards

Non Domestic Plates

Is it not possible for a tourist to bring in their own car plates and all and drive about the continent and then return back to home 20? I also understand there is an international driving license to do the same.

Would be cool to bring in an exotic drive for a year and return it!

Like the cool plate Alon, but I am sure I would not be able to panache my out like you cool cats.

While were talking showing off Euro plates, here's the Euro delivery plate I got on the front. (Its smaller than the standard Euro plates) What do you guys think about it?

Eberhard Weilke 02-15-2003 04:57 AM

The plates you on this picture are the contemporary plates for custom purposes. Used to be oval, now they have the plain ones, which are available in a shorter variant for some countries.

They are only for importing or exporting a car.

If a US-resident can drive around with a foreign registered car? I have no idea. In Germany this is forbidden, since you shorten the taxes paid to your country.

For example: If my girlfriend (she is Austrian) drives around with my car in her homeplace, she has to register the car in Austria within three days.

Which she, offcourse, never does. But according to the law, she could be heavily fined.

Same vice versa: I'm not allowed to drive her 280 S with austrian plates, but I do it anyway.

Kind regards
Eberhard

Can you not buy the toll stickers instead, or is that a tourist-only thing?

Eberhard Weilke 02-15-2003 12:48 PM

Well, if you don't bother getting new plates every three months :)

Also, insurance is pretty steep.

Of course, you can do it,...

Kind regards
Eberhard
