everyone get their duct tape?

[observations from the metro NY area]

this is the scariest it's been post 9-11. i was surprised to run into very heavy traffic heading across the hudson yesterday at mid-afternoon. all the crossings into NYC were jammed and i was forced to take the midtown tunnel. the guys in black were out in force, peering into all the vehicles, each one with an upraised shotgun. vans were all being pulled over for closer scrutiny. i figured that there must have been some intelligence reports because the tunnels were all being watched very very closely.

there's no duct tape or plastic sheeting left on the shelves. same thing for potassium iodide pills.

how is it everywhere else?

Duct tape is in short supply here as well...fortunately, I keep a hefty stock at home.

Truthfully, I think the duct tape recommendation is pretty useless! This smells very much like the pathetic nuclear threat "duck and cover" recommendations by the Civil Defense back in the 50's.

Unless you have a room in your house that rivals the biolabs that house hazardous virus strains, you are truthfully out of luck.

As a fan of " The Red Green SHow" on PBS I am never caught short on Duct Tape... We used to use it on Helicopters ... and called it " 100 mile per hour tape" ... and since we could not reach 100 mph we felt safe....
I am kinda wondering what it is people plan on Breathing once they have sealed up their plastic enclosure ..... (?)

Are we going to find out later that a representative of the DuctTapeMilitaryINdustrialComplex has bribed someone to make this recommendation ?

next on the list will be the $50,000 biohazard filtration + hepa + activated charcoal air recovery systems that might keep you alive until the food runs out

Quack Tape!

Hey when I see an Alqueda, I'm gonna use the duck tape to tie him up and duck him in the pool.

Besides if I have any left over I hear tell its good for worts! Maybe thats the biohazard we are all preparing for eh.

I dunno I gotta get my room ready, water, food, radio, flashlight... Dunno how long the air in the room will last though.

Wish the world would stop playing hide and seek with dangerous devils, but before that we must not get in bed with the devils to start with eh. Shrub Sr. and or Billy should've taken care of this issue long ago. Perhaps the Brits should pull the first trigger and then the US with or without UN should go in and mop up.

Anybody think the currently supported dictatorial goons we are responsible for currently will become as bad or worse than Sadam in the future?

Gotta get off this world police band wagon, its a thankless job with limited financial gains in the near and long term these days.

Woooosh now I feel much better.
Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

Since a HUGE dirty bomb might only affect a square mile I wouldn't worry about it too much. As far as biological weapons go by the time you find out you've been it hit it's to late. If you do happen to be near a radiological event run around the corner pop 3 POTASSIUM IODIDE tablets take off you clothes bath and go home. The Iodine saturates your thyroid and the radiation just passes through you.

I have EXTENSIVE training in Nuclear Biological Chemical warfare and decontamination. Don't sweat it I would be more concerned about a drunk driver taking me out than terrorist.

If someone was bribed, he/she will find themselves in a sticky situation.

DUCK

The major nations strategy seems to be "DUCK" this problem eh!

Needless to say its a problem which we are responsible for in a directly indirect fashion but don't leak that just "DUCT" it.

I wouldn't really use it on a long term fix on any duct for that matter. Only good on cold air duct for the short term if that.

Hey may be we can just mask it all away. I hear the new blue tape is better than the beige any experience out there?

RE the " drunk driver" comment... that is SO true... I think that when any event happens that the news people jump on they should be required to say how many people died that morning JUST driving to work.... as a comparison ......

Now only if I had a store that sold Duct tape, I would be rich now. I am not really all that worried about an attack in my area, so I am not running out to buy these supplies. However there are several huge hydroelectric projects on the Columbia River that are about 50 miles upstream from me. If those go, then I will probally have my house flooded out.
That's why you should live on Fancher Heights!

(my parents live about 1000 feet elevation; close to 400 feet above river level, and most of East Wenatchee is higher than Wenatchee, too. You probably live higher up than they do).
