What other car makes have the same Quality as MB?
 

I've driven BMWs, Lexus', Acuras, Jaguars and none of them seem to compare with Mercedes' Quality. I am very impressed with the 1996 and newer Audi's and VW but they are still a ways off from a Mercedes.

What other car makes have simlar quality (parts, engineering, build, etc) as Mercedes Benz?

80% of all RRs ever made are still on the road (despite the worst of British winters and liberal use of road-salt)

I believe the same statistic holds true for MBs (but no one else)

Actually, there was a recent post on Rollers vs. MB's in quality and while the materials of an RR were consdered superior, the build quality and engineering of the mechanics seemed to be in MB's favor.

True there are many Rollers still on the roads, but how many are daily driver's hundreds of thousands of miles on them? I doubt too many - just a sunday driver for the very wealthy. I seem to remember comments about drip pans underneath brand new cars in the showrooms. They simply make too expensive of a product to match the R&D prowess of MB.

It should be noted I have NO personal expeirence w/RR, just relaying what I read. They are indeed the pinnacle of British style and luxury, and for that I will always love them :)

I was thinking of getting a Roll's and everybody told me to run like hell, so what gives? I would like a Silver Spur LWB for family stuff on weekends they have plenty of room for the car seat, dog, and have trays on the seat so the kid's can color and stuff. Now what is the definite answer on this?

Same here, Alon told me his Dad's shocks cost $5k... EACH! But I'm still thinking it'd be a cool thing to have. I remember watching a coupla guys doing a brake job on a RR in a parking lot in SF. Must be the labor, yeah, that's it.

Rolls are reliable. if you can maintain them.

Rear shocks, $2500.

Valve job. $5000

Window Switch $140.00

Brakes Also expensive.

My father has an 83 Silver spur. Engine pretty much completely rebuilt after 200K+ Miles. Other than that engine has been fairly reliable.

though in 15 years he has gone through 3 trannies, 4 AC compressors, and had the wood redone 3 times and had the seats redone 3 times. He has also had the top redone twice.

so in 20 years of the car's life. Its had a lot.

But the ride is nice, engine smooth, and seats are comfy. It is also nice to drive. very smooth.

Anyone interested,

There was an article in a UK Motoring show about someone with "limited means" running a '73 Roller (which he payed £8K for) as an everyday car.

The general opinion was that it would cost significantly less overall than running a newish 3 series BMW (a car famous for it's low depreciation).

The prices you guys pay for servicing in the USA make my eyes water, there are loads of cheap specialists here that can keep a Roller running without breaking the bank.:)

Interesting comment Paul, I've heard the same allusions to MB maintenance - or at least if the labor isn't considerably cheaper in the UK, finding a honest, and talented mechnic isn't difficult. That can be more than half the battle in the States it seems. Wonder what it is?....

Alon, your father had the wood and leather redone!? I thought the interior appointments of Roller's was beyond reproach. I would think the finishes at fitment would be (should be) flawless for such a car!
