Get your letters of credit ready
Please see lot number 46.
http://www.rmauctions.com/events/catalog.cfm?scode=AM03 I'll be there. Anybody want me to bid on your behalf? |
Lot #46 is a little steep, but I will settle for Lot #120 just as well :D
I did not think the Gullwing fetches $750K and up, thought the market value is around $250K. |
The aluminium bodies gullwings go for well over a million. A daily driver 300SL can fetch 250k easy enough and the concours ones certainly over 500k. The Gullwing group was in my area a few months ago and they had about 40 gullwings and roadsters. Most of the owners said the market was down lately due to the economy, but expected it to rebound.

Gee, wonder how much mine will cost in 40 years :D

Rick, you'll be at Amelia? |
Yep, all weekend. I was hoping some fellow members would be there.
|
I hope to see you in the crowd :)
I'll be in town Thursday after lunch. Are you registering for the RM Auction? Here's a pic from last year just as we're about to go into the tent. That gullwing was sweet, but, unfortunately the auctioneer couldn't see me waving my bidder's pass from inside the car! LOL! |
Guys, please take plenty of pictures.............PLEASE :( :( :(

I'm taking my 4MP Canon Digital camera and 272 MB worth of compact flash cards. I may even buy another card before then. The problem is that one gets so involved taking pictures that they don't have time to see all the cars. That's what happened when I first went 2 years ago. There are over two hundred cars on the field. And you don't want to miss the awards because they drive the cars up to the reviewing stand, so you get to hear them run.
I missed the show last year because I was working in CT. Can't wait to get back there this year. In the meantime, here is the Amelia site where you can see the winners from last year: http://ameliaconcours.com |
Rick,
Have you purchased your tickets yet? I looked on the website and found this: "Due to the overwhelming response to all 5 Grand Sport Corvettes appearing together for the first time in history, as well as the rare one-off Corvette prototypes and race cars on display in honor of Corvette's 50th Anniversary, the Amelia Island Concours Foundation has been asked to open ticket sales 90 days ahead of schedule. ADVANCE TICKETS ARE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED" I ordered mine yesterday. I'd hate to get down there, spend all that cash, then not be able to get into the show on Sunday! |
Done did it.
I booked a hotel room and bought show tickets months ago. I missed this show last year because I was stuck in Connecticut, and I will be there this year come hell or high water. I even delayed the start of a new job so I could do this. Email me at rickmiley@earthlink.net and maybe we can meet up. I'll trade you an E300 ride for a CLK55 ride. ;)
