The w140 hood star

Is it just me or does the W140 have a hood star with a slightly bigger diameter cause it looks a touch bigger and a bit "different" looking than other models.

But it could just be the reflection or something off of the hood.

I think they're all of the same size and dimension. I used to think that the S had a bigger star than the rest. But experience tells me they are the same.

Does anyone know if you can change the star on the hood to the flat Mercedes symbol? I am sure it's possible but what is involved? Any need to repaint the hood?

I got an emblem from Performance Products to replace the star on my TE. Nice install,,,, just take the star off and put the emblem on. If you don't know the trick to getting the star off, let me know. This emblem is also just for the stars that are on the hood,,, not on the grille.:D :D

Thanks it seems simple. My only concern was the size of the base of the star that actually attaches to the hood and the size of the flush mount emblem. The base of the star is smaller in diameter and seems be recessed in the hood, while the flush mount emblem sits on the hood (I am taking this scenario from a W140). My guess would be that the underside of the flush mount emblem has the same circular fitting as the star and the rest of the emblem just sits on the hood. Is this correct?

When my star was plucked from within one day, I thought ot putting the enblem in (kinda like the SL).

However, I was told that it wont be as simple as plugging it in.

Now, since there is this thread, I am curious how it is put in place.

Any pics to show?
