After Duke pays them the bazillion dollars for the malpractice, I want that family to become citizens so we can tax the gains on the money and so that some poor straving American plaintiff's lawyer can get one-third. If we deport them, Mexico gets all the loot!

Speaking of immigration status:

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=586&e=3&cid=586&u=/nm/20030222/wl_nm/iraq_mexico_dc

"In defiance of the United States and Spain, U.N. Security Council member Mexico vowed on Saturday to maintain its opposition to an attack on Iraq.

"I want to reiterate that Mexico's position has been and will be very clear. It will exclusively serve our interests, the interests of the Mexicans and no-one else," said Interior Minister Santiago Creel. His comments came after a plea by the U.S. ambassador for Mexico to prove its friendship to the United States, the recipient of almost 90 percent of Mexico's exports.

Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar, one of the staunchest U.S. allies in the Iraq crisis, failed to convince Mexican President Vicente Fox to back the resolution during a visit to Mexico on Thursday. Fox, a former Coca-Cola executive who was once close to President Bush, released a short statement after that meeting which feel well short of offering support. In a breach of diplomatic dress code, the Mexican president received Aznar for talks at his official residence wearing a black leather jacket and open-necked shirt -- a signal to the Spanish leader that Fox is in dissent.

U.N. diplomats say the votes of non-permanent Security Council members like Mexico are key because Washington wants to win the minimum nine votes needed in the council for adoption of the resolution and then challenge Russia, China or France to use their powers of veto to kill it.

Mexico is upset at the United States' lack of interest in talks to legalize the status of millions of undocumented Mexicans in the United States. The immigration issue has been the cornerstone of a Mexican bid to align itself closer with the United States, but it fell of the agenda because of U.S. concerns about security after the Sept. 11 attacks on American cities."

What's the deal-i-o with Mexico. Aren't they sitting on a bunch of oil down there.
Should we INVADE Mexico next to help them sort out their problems with corruption? I don't know really, but if they do have all that oil, then they should be in a lot better shape than they are.

Also with Saddam, what an idiot. Iraq has some of the most plentiful oil supplies in the world. He could develop that and make Iraq a prosperous nation and have more power than he needs and not need a single weapon.

Unfortunately, having resources does not automatically mean someone is wise enough to put them to good use!

Latest update!

What a very sad and bizarre end we have to the Jesica Santillan story. Jesica’s second heart and lung transplant seemed to be working, but the damage from the first transplant was already done, and it wasn’t survivable. Jesica died on Saturday afternoon with irreversible brain damage.

Now .. the rest of the story. Jesica, as you no doubt know by now, came to this country illegally. On both of the days that both of her transplant surgeries took place about sixteen people who were in this country legally died because they didn’t get their life-saving transplant in time. That’s 32 law-abiding citizens and residents of the United States who passed away while an illegal alien was receiving two hearts and lungs. (Four lungs? Don’t know if they transplant one or two at a time.) Here’s your kicker. When Jesica passed away there was a chance that the heart and lung she received a few days earlier might have been transplanted into yet another recipient. She also had two kidneys, corneas and other organs that could have been transplanted. The doctors asked her family if they would donate her organs. Amazingly, they said NO.

Can you believe this? This family pays a human-smuggler $5,000 to get into this country. They play on the sympathies of Americans to collect donations sufficient to cover the cost of the first operation. The hospital picks up the cost of the second operation – a cost that will be passed on to the taxpayers and to other patients. They give this girl two hearts and at least a couple of lungs that could have been transplanted into law-abiding citizens or residents. Then, when the time comes to show some appreciation or some compassion for others who might need a donor organ .. they say NO!!!!!!!!!!

Can you believe that? Does it not PI$$ you off?!

Of course, you won't hear much, if anything, about this in the media...It would be very "insensitive"!

Just remember --- no good deed goes unpunished.

Mike

That really is a pi$$er

I'm not sure what one can say other than, "what a pi$$er!"

Can't believe that after all of that they'd say no. Becoming an organ donor should be a requirement prior to receiving donated organs. Can't give up your own, then you damn well aren't getting any of mine.

Mike, fact check here. In transplant patients, the amount of drugs, especially the anti-rejection course, renders future transplantation of a recipients organs unfeasible. Whoever was the dim bulb that asked for permission was either an idiot or just wanted to generate adverse publicity.

I guess you can imagine the disclosure that the surgical team has to make to the recipient . . . oh, these organs came from a transplant patient that didn't make it . . .

Not true....Transplant patients often become donors...Even organs that have endured transplant and/or anti-rejection drugs are better than NO organs, or non-functioning ones!

Besides, the main point is that no one seems very bothered by the fact that while an illegal alien was getting one transplant after another, a couple dozen LEGAL American citizens DIED while waiting for THOSE organs!

The solution is obvious, let the free market determine who gets organs and how much they will cost. This includes the price the donor is willing to charge and the price the recipient will pay. Sure, there will be an initial price surge but in the long term there will be plenty of organs for transplant.

This is not an acceptable solution for the bizzybodies in Government and health care who want to control this.

Jessica's case....

...poses some tough issues. I am a parent, an immigrant and now an American. As a parent I'd travel to Hell, sit across the table from Lucifer and sell my soul if it would save one of my children's lives. As an immigrant I have learned, first hand, about the generosity and open heart of the American people. No other country in the world is as generous as the US, no other people are as big hearted as the American people. And as a U.S. citizen I want to make sure that our resources, especially limited resources are used wisely. So what's the answer? I'd have let Jessica have the first transplant and then have her parents pay back the good people of this country by doing volunteer work at Duke, or doing something to show their appreciation. No free ride fro anyone!

And as far as Mexico and Canada are concerned, let's invade them both and take their oil. Why bother sending U.S. troops clear across the world, when we can just take the Canadians' and Mexicans' oil..... Anyway, the Canadians, being half-French, should not be toohard to invade....

DISCLAIMER: If I have offended anyone with any of the above, it was purely unintentional.
