For $13K, I don't care that it's not white. I wonder what's wrong with it when they say everything works. AC evaporator?

Sixto, run a free carfax report befor Sunday at midnight here:

http://www.nbc4.com/consumer/1991367/detail.html

And see for yourself. Odometer issues. It has a title of odometer "exceeding mechanical limit". May 2002 it was reported as having 106,509 miles. Between now and then, could the car ONLY have been driven ~3000 miles?

wbain5280 02-23-2003 12:16 PM

The reserve has not yet been met so it's not going for $13K.

Here's another one..

The car has been around since Summer...

I checked KBB and 13K is about right. What's the big problem with these?

Maintenance costs may turn some people off to this model. The price of repairing these beauties is not for the faint of heart! Plus the used car market is very sofr, at least in the midwest and new cars can be had for very little interest. Money is cheap and new cars become more appealing leaving more of the used ones in the open market.

Just a thought.

I hear that I just bought a 2003 Avalanche. The sticker was 38700 After GM discounts and rebates I paid about 28K then with high credit 0% for 60 months I could not refuse.

wbain5280 02-23-2003 03:51 PM

Sorry, I misread that price. Please disregard the previous post.

Wow, did no one see my post above? Check the VIN and see for yourself!

I ran a free carfax check but I didn't save it. I thought a courtesy copy would be emailed to me. I'll probably just get more spam.

It's very possible that the car has been driven 3000 miles since May. Some cars that sit in lots for a long time. It's a catch 22. I always figure I'll wait until the car has been at a lot for a while before bargaining then I ask myself why no one has bought it.

I have a hard time believing that the car has over a million miles. True mileage unkown I can understand but exceeded the mechanical limits of the odometer is impossible. I wouldn't put money on it but I'll bet it's a clerical error.

Question is, if you replace the gauge cluster on a 95 140 (not the series strong suit), does it change the odometer reading? I thought MBs of this vintage stored the odometer reading in some ECU, not in the gauge cluster. These cars don't run if you disconnect the speedometer cable so it's not as simple as that.

Thanks for the replies.

In some states you get that odometer exceeds mechanical limits message when the car has rolled over 100k.

Speedyturbo, if you have a copy of the carfax, I'd like another look at it.

Paul, I guess the mileage exceeded the capacity of the title application form.

Thanks,

IMHO, the biggest catch would be repair costs....W140s are mighty fine cars, and IMO few cars are close in terms of quality and craftmanships..... but up-keeping costs would put a big hole in your pocket down the road..... :(
