whats the lowest gas price you remember?
 

i was born in 59, and started driving in 75.

i can remember dad paying about $0.25 per gal, and about $0.40 or so in my early driving. also paid around $0.50 for the super-duper ammoco "white" gas for the motorcycle.

my older boss told me that as kids they would drain all those 20ft hoses at the pumps to fill their minibikes to ride for free all the time.

ah, the good ole days! i may to to resume my search for for a 50 mpg VW turbodiesel new beetle if it gets much worse, and im afraid that it will!

I only noticed when I had to pay for my own gas, so $0.74.

I'm about he same as you, born in '56. I remember complaining when gas went over 40 cents/gallon!:D :rolleyes: And when it hit $1.00/gallon, well, the world was coming to an end!:eek: Sad thing was, there wasn't too many years between those two prices.

I actually bought gas for .159 and at that time diesel was the same price.

Cars have always been a part of my life and I have auto-related memories from when I was VERY young. I'm 36 years old now and distinctly remember seeing gas for 18.9 cents a gallon for regular (ethyl and super were a bit more)...this was around 1970 when I was 3 years old! :D

I was born in 61, my dad ran a gas station. I remember it being about .25/gallon when I was small. When I got my license in the 70's it was about .60/gallon. I remember too when in went over 1.00/gallon and none of the pumps would go over .99/gallon, so we had to set the pump at 1/2 price and double it. My dad got out of the business in 81, I don't think he ever updated the pumps to go over .99/gallon.

ps Just because your dad runs a gas station does NOT mean free gas:( . I had a hard time convincing friends in high school that we couldn't go gas up their car on my dad's good graces.

Hey! I remember that too! I'd forgotten all about that.
So what's next? Gas prices that go over $9.99/gallon and everyone has to do that again?!:D

I remember getting it for about $0.25. Too bad I was making $1.35 an hour:)

I remember 17-18 cents a gallon for 100+ octane at the Mobile station (When they still had the red Pegasus!!!) My first job was $0.65/hour, minimum wage. So about 26-28% of my hourly wage bought a gallon of gasoline. So now it is $1.90 - $2/gallon, about 28% of minimum wage. Funny how that works.

When I started driving I was getting gas for 23.9 cents a gallon (Texas 1972). I remember my Dad getting gas during a gas war for 9.9 a gallon. I also vididly remember him complaining that it took "almost 6 whole dollars" to fill the Fury III.

My fill up yesterday was $41.00. Today as we passed the filling station my 14 year old was commenting about the price "do you think anyone pay $2.05 for the premium"? I let him know I do.

I remeber being pissed when regular leaded got over $0.45 per litre. Being in school I often had to scrape together enough dimes, nickels and Canadian Tire money (canadian posters know what I mean) to get the buck or so I needed into the tank of the old '77 Civic to make it home from school.

I remember local "GAS WARS" it got down to $0.14.9 in the late 60'S. The regular price was $0.34.9, it was cut in half. All High Test stuff like John was talking about. And they pumped it, washed your windsheild, checked your oil and tires!

Remembering those times, remind me of the punch line of an old George Carlin joke I still use today " Just give me five bucks worth, and pour the rest on the ground"

Times have changed, we were driving 10sec Detroit Iron, in the day, and the Cops would catch us, if they were lucky, but no ticket, oh no "we will call your parents!" YIKES!!

When I was 16 (1996) I purchased gas for 43.9c/L in Niagara Falls Ontario.

Regular has almost doubled in price here in Canada in only 7 years.

My grandfather owned a gas station in the mid 30s. (No, I wasn't around then, I'm *only* 39.) The pumps held 10 gallons - they were the kind where a hand pump moved the gasoline up into a big glass tank up top - it had the gallons calibrated on the side of the glass. It held 10 gallons, and they sold that amount for a dollar. Whenever a tin lizzy came in and bought a bucks worth, they'd let a gallon run out onto the ground - a model T only had a nine gallon tank!
