Armored W126, cool!

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2405427998&category=6336

what do you think. it looks quite beefy, i doubt it has good gas mileage at 5,500 lbs. i think the seller is asking a bit too much money for this one, but maybe not!

You know, you wouldn't have to worry about road rage in that car, especially considering the fact that it weighs nearly 1 ton more than most mid-size SUVs.

I bet a 5.6 liter engine would be necessary to give it any kind of accelerative ability, though.

The W 126 Sonderschutz are quite common here for persons who needed extra protection. The ones done by the works in Sindelfingen can easily be recognized by the wider chrom frames at the windows and the different wind shield, which is shorter than usual.

You wouldn't want to drive that car as a daily driver. It handles bad (with all the extra weight at the windows), it needs special reinforced tires (pricy, pricy), you need brake rotors and brake pads every time you fill up your car (just kidding), the windshield distorts your view (it takes experienced drivers to handle that)

And the most inconvienient thing: Driving to the toll-booth, you have to stop, get out of the car and get the money to the teller, because the side windows don't open.

We have a W 116 (ex Voith company car) at our monthly meeting. Interesting to collect, not good as a daily driver.

Kind regards
Eberhard

Thats how a W 140 Sonderschutz looks like:

Better camouflage

These vehicles used to be used for guarding money transports coming from the mint.

Here in Stuttgart they have BMW 7-series Sonderschutz now for that purpose, in other regions they use armored LandCruiser and Mercedes G-Modell.

Kind regards
Eberhard

The W 140 Sonderschutz can be recognised by the smaller windows

Wow

Eberhard, did they ever make armored W123's? That would be cool. I love that pic with the G and the MAN truck. That is so cool. My personal convoy for my mafia organization would have to be an C220 CDI wagon at the back (armored of course) and an C220 CDI Sedan at the front, with a Sprinter with a 2.7 litre diesel engine. That would definitely be cool. Oh...if I had money...replace the two cars with S400 CDI's.

When I think of Lebanon or middle eastern countries in early 90s and mid 80's...I always think two white Mercedes 240D's and a Toyota Van (pointy front type) in the middle carrying the bulk of the group. That seems to come to mind when I think of an arab "evil doer" convoy.

my friend in Charlottesville, VA has a beautiful armored 280SE (1978? w114?), it used to belong to the ex-president of Germany. it has those flag holders in the fenders and then some extra's in the interior like lights, clocks, heaters, and odd things like that. it's very cool.

and he'll be selling it soon if anyone is interested. black on tan
