C140 Roll Call!!!!!
S 500/600 coupes or CL 500/600 in the W140 body styles...I want to see what you have done with your car. Just got my first benz in August, very anxious in what to do with it! Even if you haven't done anything with your car, I just want to see how many people have this rare body...I heard that MBZ only produced/sold about 3000 of these pieces of art from 94 - 99

Looks nice!
You've purchased one of Mercedes better cars in my opinion. Although there are many who will dispute that!!!
Here's the numbers of USA sales for C140 for model years '94 - '99. 94 - - 793 95 - - 1341 96 - - 2387 97 - - 933 98 - - 342 99 - - 19 In 2000, the sales went up to 1728! I didn't realize that the sales dropped so drastically in '97 thru '99. You can see that most people perfer the 'sedan' since getting into the car's back seat is harder when you get older. So the sedan is the way to go. But personally, the coupe is just beautiful! Check my page (click 'www' icon below) for data on the car's electrical systems. |

Jim
In my opinion you are the C140 king. You know so much about the coupe, its uncomprehensible. I've been to your page so many times to check up on the next thing you've done to your car. I sent someone to your site to fix his "heating" problem. He has a W129 (1997 SL500) and was from texas. Thanks for helping me out, though you didn't know you did.
I love my coupe, I've been driving the S420 (1997 W140) for a week or so. Let me tell you one thing, it is not a 500. Is it me or does the C500 accelerates quicker then the S500, both 140s? I've driven the sedan and that is my first impression... I just ordered my central locking pump (vacuum, 140-800-2848) from Phil for $379; MBZ wanted $975! Phil's prices are untouchable. |

C140 king. . . .
Wow, you're too kind, David! Now if that title gave me a million bucks. . .
to pay for the $2.10/gal gas prices in So Cal. Seriously the coupe is such a great car with and it's been the best Mercedes ever. Hasn't cost me anything for maintenance compared to my previous MBs. So I just love it! Re acceleration: As far as I know, there's no difference in the engines (sedan vs coupe). But aerodynamically, the coupe is far ahead of it time and definitely less drag when compared to the sedan. So maybe that's why?? |

Chip
Hi Jim,
I was reading a few of your prior posts. You had said that you had taken the coupe up to about 110 and you found oil in your coolant a few days later. Why is that and is that a big problem? Also, the chip that you have installed. Can you really tell a big difference in performance? What do you think of K&N filters? Thanks again Jim! |

Check out the latest post . . .

Leak seems to be gone, it there ever was one! The chip is ok but I don't try to drive the car very hard, so I 've removed it. The KN filters are still there and seem to be just fine. I don't know whether they actually get more air into the engine! My conclusions are just subjective, so need to do a search from some more qualitative reviews from users who have tested them on a dyno. |

C140 is still my favourite S-Class Coupe.... IMO, it's the best ever made, especially 1997 - 1999..... New CL looks, drives, rides sweet... but for some reasons, I feel it's just not up there with C140 yet..... Cost-cutting bites....
![]() And I agree, Jim's C140 site is very nice indeed!!! Very informative, and very well done!!! ![]() Keep it up folks, and post your C140 pics... I am drooling over here...
