going out for drives....

Who here eitheir goes with a freind or wife, out for a casual drive such as out in the country,on some hills and such? Even though my w126 is my daily driver, I still take her out once in a while on hwy streches for 100km or so trip. Is this too much wear on the car or is it recommended?

Who else does this?

Nothing better on a nice sunny sunday afternoon then a cruise in The Benz! Open the sun roof, drop the windows and crank up some good opera music (Sarah Brightman of course), and tool on past the Hunduhs and catch a glimpse of them looking to see who the heck is screaming their lungs out in the car next to them

I need to resolve the front end suspension issues and replace the tires and get the car a good wax job before I can go cruisin' in style...but once I've done that, I have every intention of doing so

Nothing wrong with putting on a few highway miles. It's a fairly well-known idiom that cruising at steady rates of speed is much less wear and tear on a car than an equivalent distance of urban (i.e. stop and start) driving.

I love this car to death and sometimes I dont want to put so many clicks on her but I have no choice!

Well atleast its getting most of its clicks from highway driving.

I used to go for a nice drive through Boulder Canyon every Sunday morning. I would go up past the ski area and just cruise the back roads in the mountains. It was great. I would wake up at 8:00 or so, jump into my Benz, warm it up on my way to the canyon, then let things rip. I would usually return home around 10:00, just as my girlfriend was waking up. We would go get breakfast then spend the rest of the day relaxing.

I miss those days. I now wake up at 5:30 AM every Sunday to go snowboarding, then I work every Sunday night. Not much time for leisurely drives anymore.

Howdy All,
Not exactly a Sunday cruise but it is driving for my activity. During my dogs running season the ride one way is a minimum of 150 miles and can add up to 600 miles on a weekend. Then there was the day I drove up to Frisco and back home to pick up a dog. That added 860 miles to the Cruiser in that one day.

Hey Bill, are you from Temple? That's where most of my family (on the American side, through my grandmother) is from! My grandmother had an old house with 15' ceilings. Last time I was there was when I was twelve years old ('76 or so), but I remember what a nice little town it was. [Just for my own edification, my great-grandmother was in the first class of women to be graduated from college in the state of Texas. She was at the top of her class. ]

Regarding the question of driving the Benzes on road trips for pleasure: I don't get it. Don't we all take our babies out on scenic drives occasionally just for the pure unadulterated joy of it??

I love waking up early on a Saturday or Sunday morning and cruising the many two-lane backroads near my home. Even better is meeting up with a few friends to enjoy a casual drive and country breakfast at one of the many cafes in the area.

I love early morning weekend drives, no traffic, sunrise, cool crisp air and my beast....errr I mean Benz providing an ear to ear grin!

I agree with Glen, going for drives with friends and settling down to car chat at a diner for breakfast is what life is all about for us car nuts!

Hmm if it's not raining tomorrow morning you can bet I'll be out driving!

I think I posted this in a thread a few weeks ago, but on New Year's I drove my Mercedes from the DC area up to see friends in Philly.

Going up, I ventured off I-95 with its many tolls and drove a less traveled route through the countryside. It was unusually warm that day, I had the sunroof open, and some GREAT tunes were playing on the radio. I think I had a grin that lasted about 100 miles or so. What a beutuful country we live in!!

Upon arriving, my friends inquired how my drive up was. After telling them how much I enjoyed the 2.5 hour trip they all shook their heads and said there was somthing wrong with me. If that's true..... I'll stay sick!!
