NetFlix Question

Just got all my LCD TV issues handled and got my first DVD player over the weekend.

I love this LCD screen, I have it set to "hi resolution" and am just getting used to the small print.

The TV works great hooked up to cable.

The DVD's are awesome!

One of my friends told me about NetFlix, it looks ok, My viewing habbits may change.

Any help?

I've been using Netflix for about 3 years now. It's all about convenience. You setup an online queue and Netflix sends DVD's to you via USPS. When you're done viewing a movie, you put it in the pre-paid mailer and drop it in the mail. Depending on where you live the turn-around is 1 to 2 days.

If you're the type that likes to pop into Blockbuster and pick up a movie to watch as soon as you get home, Netflix may not be right for you. On the other hand, if you don't mind planning ahead a little, the service works really well.

Smooth, fast, efficient service.

Huge cross referenced list of actors, movies, directors. Great for quick checks of actor's filmographies or searching for a movie that had "Africa" in the title, etc.

It depends a lot on your viewing habits.

If you are a regular movie goer then just occasionally going to Blockbuster may be better. I like browsing the boxes at Blockbuster, and sometimes I'll just make a list and then pick them out on Netflix.

If you go out to zero movies, like me, it works very well.

It's cheap. I started with the $20 for 3 movies at a time and then dropped to $15 for 2 movies at a time. Even then, I would average about 8-10 movies a month. Great to catch up on movies and also to see a lot of obscure stuff.

The reviews are hit and miss.

In Southern California they opened a new distributor site and movies are sent out lightning fast.

Just released movies are usually backlogged. If you have one at the top of your list, your movies per month average will drop dramatically.

I cancelled my service. I was watching too many movies!

Hey, thanks for the input. I see about 4 movies a year and that is up from 0 movies in the last 15 years!

I would rent about 5 tapes a year, but seeing the huge selection on NetFlix, and having the new DVD.................hummmm.....

I guess I would be a fool not to try them free for 2 weeks, and now knowing they are in So Cal I should have about a one day turnaround.

Thanks Glen & Glen

I will keep you posted.

I liked it a lot but it became a pain when they would get lost in the mail and netfliz sent you a bill for 28.99 a DVD!

In three years I've had two issues come up that Netflix handled quickly and with no fuss to me. The first issue was a DVD that never arrived. An email to customer support prompted a duplicate DVD to be sent immediately. The second issue was a scratched and unplayable DVD, again they sent out another very quickly.

That's it. Their program works and works well.

Out of over 100 movies, I think maybe 2 were lost. I was not charged.

Yes, DVD....hmmmm....good.

One quirk. Each DVD counts as a rental, so if a movie comes with a movie disk and an extras disk, that counts as 2 if you want both of them.

May take me a day to search all the titles they have, but I am looking forward to viewing them on this new flat screen.
