Mexico's position

"Mexicans who live in the United States feel proud of your firm and brave position in the United Nations regarding war," said Lydia Hernandez, an adviser to the Institute of Mexicans Living Abroad. "We know that it is a difficult decision, but we want to say that we are with you."

Jose Luis Gutierrez, another institute adviser, said Fox's position reflected Mexico's "ethical principles and international political history."

"Today, in these uncertain times, Mexicans should remain united under the same sky and beyond borders to confront challenges and problems that we encounter," he said.


How about this? If Mexicans who live in the U.S. wish to remain "united..beyond borders" how about taking a short drive south so they can all be within one border: theirs.

It never seems to amaze me how people who are guests in one country, be they Mexicans, Canadians, Cubans, Chinese, Irish, Iranian, Europeans, whatever, feel compelled to criticize, attack and condemn the host country. If you are here as guests shut up and stop whining.

If you don't like the U.S., go back to your country and don't live off our social institutions. Plain & simple!

I don't necessarilly agree with that, I think that its a good thing to keep in touch with your roots and heritage, no matter where you are.

America was founded by immigrants, and is inhabited by immigrants. In fact, people who immigrate to this country and become citizens, from my experience are more patriotic than most people who call themselves Americans.

I was born in south africa, and immigrated to the united states. When I became a citizen, I ceased being a south african, and started being an american. I gave up my rights in south africa as a south african citizen.

Most mexican immigrants I have met, are some of the hardest working people in this country. My current Girlfriend is Mexican, but born in the U.S, and raised in mexico. She is a U.S. citizen and her two older brothers are both in the military. Her oldest brother was in the gulf last time this happened, and her other older brother is currently in japan, awaiting to see if he will be sent to the gulf. She herself worked for the U.S. military as a private citizen for several years. If that doesn't show patriotism, I don't know what does.

America is a nation built by and inhabited by people from all over the world. That is what makes america great in my opinion. We are full of culture from all walks of life.

Unfortunately, there are some power hungry leaders of other countries that have a grudge against us for allowing our citizens to have a great amount of freedom, and for trying to spread our liberal ideals and freedoms to other countries.

I for one am not against the war, but I am not for it. I do think we need to do something about it, but I think that we can do it without resorting to violence.

I don't believe in killing other humans, it goes against one of the oldest religious principals that I believe in.

When I became a citizen of this country, and was asked if I would take up arms for my country I said no, because I don't believe in takign up arms and killing people.

Now when it comes to illegal immigrants, I believe that something has to be done about that, but when it comes to people who are here legally, they are as much a part of america as anyone else who is here legally, be it a citizen, permanent resident, or student.

Everyone in america can trace their ancestors back to another country, if we were all to follow your "go back to your country" statement, well guess what, that includes everyone in this country, because we were all descendants of immigrants from other countries at some point in time.

Ashman, I think that you misunderstood my position, or perhaps I did not explain myself well enough.

I am not against legal immigration (I would not be here otherwise). I am not against people holding on to the traditions of their ethnic heritage. I think that's a good thing. On March 17 I am Irish, on Conce de Mayo I am Mexican, on Columbus Day I am Italian and on Surrender Day I am French :eek:

I think that our country is better off because of its diversity. Having said this, however, I am very troubled about people who come here, do not bother to become U.S. citizens, still feel political and economic allegiance to their country of origin (as opposed to cultural and historical ties). They don't see themselves as Americans and waste no opportunity to criticize the country that has given them refuge and the people who have opened their doors and hearts to them. That's what gets to me and that's the opinion that I seek to express with this thread.

The Mexican government has every right to criticize American actions. I have the equal right to express my opinion about Mexico's position. I just don't think that foreigners who live in the US and benefit from our system, and feel no allegiance to the US, have any right to criticize our actions. If you don't like the US you don't have to live here.

I agree with you. I just thought what I said needed to be said.

My father is an immigration attorney, he deals with people from all over the world who want to be here legally.

I agree that people here illegally need to be dealt with. People here legally who could care less about this country is also somethign I don't like to see.

I may not be the most patriotic person, but I do believe in this country, because this country is my home.

I believe that an integral part of America is being able to express your opinions freely. Just as is being done in this thread. We don't HAVE to agree! That's the beauty of this country!

I also believe that being the worlds #1 superpower -or- hyperpower as some our calling us now, automatically sets us up for all kinds of criticism. It's always lonely at the top. I'm not saying I agree with everything our government chooses to do, just that no matter what we do, there will be criticism.

Washington fix the Mexican border? That will bo a cold day in hell.

All they have to do is put all the troops coming back from Iraq on the border, problem solved.

Heck the drug cartels are using Mexican military to invade OUR country and run drugs for them. I think the 3rd armor division needs to show them how this would be a bad idea. Next time them invade our country lets send some 120mm shells through there vehicals, take that!:D

Maybe we should just import all our fruit and vegetables from Europe. For a while, then they dont have a market to go to, stay away and when they're gone, tighten up the border and not them do it again.
