What is your favorite post-war MB design and why?

I believe the 116 cars have the most balanced, teutonic lines of anything to come out of Germany, with the possible exception of the 108/9 cars. As someone here once said, "This design just says 'made in West Germany!'"

Howdy Mike,
Unimog:cool: Why?¿ Because it is a neat "grocery getter" |
Gullwing is too obvious. But, I'd take one, sell it, pay off my house and buy:
1971 280SL 113-chassis, for summer. Four speed manny-tranny car. |
AMG hammer all the way

Shouldn't this thread wait until the Iraq war is over? Then we can comment on the 2004 models...;)
|
I think you need to get rid of your SL first... (inside joke):p
|
Do I have to pick just one?:D
I like the 190SL's of the sixties. Nice simple clean design. I'd take a 560SEC in a heartbeat if/when I can afford another Benz. And Benz made an awesome car in the 50's that I can't remeber what it was called right now. Was a very sleek convertable. Drop dead gorgeous:) (I'll have to check my book at home for the model) |
If we're just talking about pure artistic lines, then I've got to go with the 108/109s. This is the only model that I think looks better with US style DOT headlights. When all that chrome is shining and the paint is freshly waxed, it just seems like everything else on the road should get out of the way.

The W123 diesels were almost perfect cars...
with "mature" technology, flawless but practical workmanship, overbuilt of fine materials, a well-wearing body design, durability, reliability...and affordability. To my mind, these were the last "true" Mercedes-Benz.
The "big" 280 SE convertibles of the late '60s would be my favorite postwar "classic." |

I'm a big fan of the Pagoda cars. Oh, and the 300SEL 6.3.
