Howdy Greg in Oz,
First I just want to say how lucky you are to have such a rare vehicle. Is your 190 a right hand drive?¿

Frank,

Yes it is right hand drive. To use a left hand drive car here requires that it be at least 30 years old. I am pleased that I purchased the Sportline. It was almost an impulse purchase as I figured it was rare. Despite 214,000km, its condition is very good and the price was right too. I am fortunate in that I can say I have been happy with every car I have ever purchased. I also tend to go for cars that are a bit different and not too common on our roads here as you can see in my signature.

Greg

I think, Code 972 makes mine a relatively rare car.

Kind regards
Eberhard

The easiest translation would be:

Unmarked police car. :p

Kind regards

Wish I had rare car. Though I don't see many 250SE's here in Melbourne.

One for the W124 enthusiast

Paul S. This one will be of interest to you. On the weekend I saw a 1994 E320 Sportline advertised at a dealer here in Sydney. That is rare here at least.

Oh, and SPOCK, don't be too hard on Sonia, she's new here. I have seen her 220SE utility or "ute" as we call them ("pickup" to most of you) at concourses here. It really is an exceptional vehicle (and no doubt rare). Pity she didn't post a pic.

I think the rarest has got to be a 99 S500 Grand Edition and the 97 E50 AMG. I have never even seen the E50 on ebay, ever. Classic MB has to be Gullwing but that was destined for rarity at the time of conception.

The Ute

Hi there Greg in Oz,
I'm only new to this and my computer at work changes everything out of lower case so sorry about not using lower case. Meanwhile back to your topic of interesting vehicles. The Ute is a unique vehicle that we have enjoyed driving to many varied events hear in Australia for competition and invitation displays and motoring tours. The ute is in concours condition and a pleasure to drive.
Hope you like the picture. There is a couple more on the for sale site of the interior and back.
Sonia.

This might be an odd question, but why did you replace the original hub caps with ones from a latter model benz? I think the originals would look far better

Let's stick to the topic

I was hoping that this could be a way of learning about some rare Mercedes and it pretty much has been. Please keep to the topic of discussion rather than expressing your views on whether or not a car is worth the asking price (see Ashman's thread "Attention All" regarding cars advertised for sale). Presumably the concours judges (who got a better look at it than you can from the pics here) decided it was worthy of the awards it received. I very much doubt that a concours award winner would have a bent bumper. I have no problem with it being here in the context of a rare car.

Manya, your 108 looks very tidy from the pic. Are you a member of the Victorian MB club?

In my first posting in this thread I mentioned a 300TE-24 Sportline on another forum. There is now a second one there and the owner of this one is contemplating replacing the Sportline suspension with standard bits. With the replies he is getting I think he is now becoming aware of just how rare his car is. The question was also raised as to the availability of a manual transmission in the 300TE-24 (or 300E-24 or CE-24) Sportline. I have seen the manual transmission option shown in a sales brochure (including the close ratio box with dogleg first and with second through fifth in the H pattern as in the 190E 2.3-16). Has anyone seen this option in real life, or for that matter anything other than a 190E 2.3-16 or 2.5-16 with the close ratio box?

Besides, I asume nobody living in the US can have an objective view of the price level for Mercedes in Australia.

As always, it is a question of the specific market. High demand, low supply, higher prices.

Kind regards
Eberhard

btw: I don't like the rims either But the rest of the car is really interesting
