I live in Australia and like most of you all I love Mercedes.
I was sifting through the crap at the Local Newpaper Shop and i found this months Motor Magazine(Very big in Australia).
This Magazine had a review of most of the performance cars on the market this year. From Porsche to Mercedes to Mazda to Lotus, Audi and Alfa aswell. They review both the new SL55 and the E55 and they got fantastic reviews taking out 2 of the top 4 positions, after the first round of culling the Fords, Jaguars, new Mini, BMW, the locally manufactured Holden(Chev), Mitsubi****oyota and Honda were all booted. then the second round of culling saw the Dodge Viper, Mazda, Lotus, another Holden, and the Alfa all get booted aswell, Leaving An Audi a Porsche, a Ford( I4.0L-24v turbo), a Subaru WRX STi, and the two Benzes. Now theses guys look at an all round Performance car. The two things that apparantly took the Mercedes from victory were the steering apparantly its loose and rattly for a perfromance car, unlike the porsche, and the fact that the SL bottomed out of the race circut, i'm not sure how this guy must have been driving but i don't understand how you could bottom the car out it has air adjustable suspension that ramps up the harder you hit the bumps. and the High price of them.

The SL came third in the Track lap Times 2.88seconds infront was the viper and .10 seconds infront was the Lotus. and in the standing 0-1000m it came 2nd to the viper.

Anyway the SL55 came 2nd
and the E55 came 4th
the Porsche Boxster S came 1st
and the Ford Turbo 3rd

The review praised the SL55 saying that it had more power than the United Nations, they went on to say that if bloody Mercedes Australia had taken off the speed limiter for the day then the car would have taken out their top speed award, and would have have out shone the Lambo Murcielago, the Ferrari 550 Maranello and the Porsche GT2 and then Aston Martin Vanquish as far as top speed is concerned, the car is able to rocket from stand to 325km/h in about 32.5 seconds.

The 700Nm is enough to humble the Dogde Viper and its exhaust sounds are the equal of an Automotive Orgasm.

The car all over did come second, but the 'Packers Pick' of all the cars, was the SL55K out of 17 votes 4 went to the Porsche 2 the E55K, 1 the Lotus(they suspected he was drunk at the time of the vote), but the remaining 10 all voted the SL55K


In numerous places it is written that the drivers liked to slow down, then plant it just to feel all 700Nms pulling then through the seat.
