Pontiac V6 stalls on cold startup
My mom's got a '94 Pontiac Grand Prix with a 3.1l V6 (which, fortunately, she'll be getting rid of soon). A problem just cropped up today. When it's started after sitting for a while, it'll crank, fire, rev up some (like it normally does) and then shut down. On a re-start, it starts fine and keeps going. The car doesn't seem to be lacking for power, and there isn't a misfire or anything like that.
I'm guessing fuel pump...I can hear it whining, but maybe it's on its way out. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance! |
Have you checked for a trouble code? If not, get a Haynes manual or some such to see how to do it. I expect it is just shorting two pins on the ALDL connector, then reading the flashes of the Check Engine light.
Most likely there is a code stored that will point you in the right direction. Good luck, |
Does the Check Engine light come on wheenver a code's been stored? I ask because I haven't seen it come on, and to my knowledge, neither has my mom.
Actually, the car may just not like me; my mom started it this morning and it worked fine... |
