I love seeing this guy speak

He's almost funnier than Seinfeld. Seriously, he's just about the best entertainment on the boob tube presently. I heard analysts say that although his message is a farce, it is temporarily effective in that it's sort of a political nose thumbing at us (second grade). I'm sure that some of the ignorant people in the ARab world buy into it hust as some people buy into pro wrestling. I hope we brought one of those long vaudeville canes you see in the cartoons in order to just yank him off of his soap box during his next live broadcast.

I vote stupid.

He's as brilliant as the foreign "martyrs" who are charging Bradleys with AK-47s in pick-up trucks.

In that case I take back all the "stupid idiots" remarks I made about Iraq and from here on out their "brilliant".

He must have a gun to his head. Just the fact that they try such stupid things make me laugh.

Remember the "Baby Milk Factory" you know the one that all of the workers had the word "Baby Milk Factory" on their uniforms IN ENGLISH!!! PEEEEEEEETAAAAAA AHHHNET for such responsible reporting. I also thank many Americans for being "brilliant" like Al-Sahaf

Most if not all Iraqis are living under Sadam thread of terror all the time, they will do and say whatever Sadam wants. I will say anything to please Sadam if my family members are under his gun. It will make a lot of senses if you put yourself in his shoes, thinking what you can do to save your family from tortue, raped and bullits in their heads.

Who's Holding Skippy's Leash?

Who's Holding SKippy's Leash? (from sgtstryker.com)

Last night, as I was watching Skippy giving his press briefing from the parking lot, I was making fun of his "2+2=5" routine, but then I wondered, "Who's holding the other end of his leash?"

At the moment he was making an ass of himself in front of the world, our guys were almost right across the street. He could've said, "To hell with this charade!" and run off to surrender to our guys. Why didn't he? He knows the end is near. He obviously has a satellite dish (and apparently gets Fox News) as he references reports made about 5-10 minutes before he goes on the air. He knows that international justice is fairly weak and if he didn't commit warcrimes, then he'll get maybe 5 years, if that. If he did commit warcrimes, he might get 10-15 years with a reduced sentence down the road. They don't hang or shoot people anymore, so where's the fear of a criminal tribunal? Hell, with his disinformation skills and natural timing, his trial could become the sitcom of the century.

My guess is that someone higher up the food chain is close enough to Skippy to do him harm should he not keep up the good media fight. You ever see the chubby guy with the mustache (okay, not the most specific description in Iraq) that's usually about 3 ft away from Skippy? Is that his bodyguard or his minder? If Skippy were to suddenly make a break for the Americans in the middle of his press conference, would that chubby dude join him or shoot him?

Skippy is a puzzle in so many ways, but the biggest question is why doesn't he surrender? Who's putting the screws on him? Who's powerful enough to make a man go out and make a mockery of himself in front of the world when he knows the end is imminent? I figure most of the senior leadership is either dead or far enough away from Skippy that they don't pose an immediate threat, especially when American tanks are about 300 yards away, so who's the guy with the pistol to Skippy's head?

In a country like this... it isn't his own person that keeps him there... it is the knowledge that his family will be punished if he flees....

I heard "them"(the news reporters) talking about Skippy (I like that name for him ). They were saying how Saddam will play "kill the messenger" with anyone that talks negatively about what their regime is doing. Maybe you guys are right. He's not really all that stupid, just protecting his a$$. Will be interesting to see how he fairs in the coming future.

Oh crap! I forgot about 'ol Skippy there. I shall heretofore never refer to said person(s) in the vernacular, I.E. "Skippy" as said in above statements. And please extend our most heartfelt appologies to the rightful owner of said name That's one critter I don't wanna piss off!

PaulC, shouldn't you have named your avatar Hoppy ? I don't think rabbits ( I am assuming that is what it is ) have a "skippy" gait available to them .....(?)

A 'tank' is a farmer made body of water for watering livestock... also called a 'pond' up north....

I dunno... I think paul c's avatar looks like a beaver on heroin more than a rabbit. Either way, he needs to stay off the drugs!

Greg...Rick...

....I am also old enough to remember the "news" accounts put up by the Chinese, Russian and Cuban press. It all bordered on the surreal. Textbooks in kastro's Cuba had math lessons such as: "If a North Vietnamese "patriot" (parenthesis added by me) kills an American invader on Tuesday, and then he kills 5 more for the next 4 days, what's the average of American capitalist invaders by the North Vietnamese patriot?"

And Greg, things have not changed much since the "end" of the Cold War. Go to the website for the official Cuban Kommunist party newspaper, Granma, and read the kind of crap that they still print.

BTW, while we are busy liberating Iraq, kastro is still busy repressing freedom and rounding up dissidents. But don't tell that to NY's assemblyman Chuckie Chuckles Rangel, as far as he is concerned kastro's Cuba is a workers' paradise and the U.S. government is just one mean, old bully. He makes me puke!

You guys have it all wrong. We should keep him around even after the war just for levity. He could follow press conferences by the post-war Iraq administrator ON THE SAME STAGE, in his green military garb, to inform the gathered press that this conference never happened.

LOL.
