Question Car stuff--Relays--no politics in this one

OK...I've been fighting a wiring problem in my 1993 300E. Over the past few months several things happened intermittantly, but always together. Most of these are on one fuse and the symptoms make me think something is going to ground somewhere. I would loose my central locking system, my stereo quit and read E2, the interior light serviced by the door jam switch stayed on, and the fasten steat belt light blinked. I finally laid my hands on a so-so wiring iagram and it looks like most of the power feeds for these components come from different places but the CONTROL feeds seem to be linked together. Does anyone know if one relay controls some of these different modalities? It would explain why some things stay omn that are controled by closing a ground circuit...ie the interior lights, and some thing have main power but won't turn on...ie the radio which won't come on unless the antenna is up and it's not moving! Any relay info???

Check your grounds

Like I said check your grounds. When "weird" things happen, or different things affect each other, it's cause of a flakey ground. One reason is some devices have a very low impedence and when they are on may appear as a valid ground to other devices. Through out the car there are grounding points. Unplug and re-plug them, maybe a couple of times to work them through any corrosion. I put a little grease on the connections to prevent corosion. You should have everything off when you do that, maybe even disconnect the battery. Happy hunting, I've been on that hunt many times myself.
