Darwin proved right once again...

Boy, 14, hurt mimicking 'Jackass' stunt

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A 14-year-old boy was burned over 65 per cent of his body after setting himself on fire to mimic a stunt from Jackass: The Movie. Just before clicking the lighter, he stared into a video camera and said: "Don't try this at home."

The boy, who was not identified, has had three major surgeries since the stunt in late March and is expected to survive, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported Friday.

According to the Dakota County sheriff's office, the boy, from Hastings, Minn., and a friend were doing a "blooper video" for a class project. For one of the stunts, the boy used mineral spirits and a lighter to set himself on fire.

The stunt-filled Jackass: The Movie, which stemmed from a similar show on MTV, includes an actor lighting himself on fire to grill steaks.

The movie includes a warning to not to try the stunts at home and says the producers don't accept submissions. But several serious injuries have been linked to attempts to imitate its stunts.

In Indiana, a 13-year-old boy died in December and five other teens were injured after their speeding van hurtled off a railway track and crashed into a parked car. In New Mexico, a 15-year-old boy died after jumping on the hood of a moving car.

Kids don't take the time to think about what they're doing. Consequences? What's that?

I feel sad those kids have to suffer for a momentary lack of common sense. I feel sorry for their parents who most certainly are suffering the consequences as well.

Comon!

I am currently a kid (17) and four years ago I was 13 years old. I never really thought of taping steaks to myself and lying down on a barbecue grill, or jumping on moving cars etc. Most of my friends have never thought of this.
This is definitely Darwin working. I know my mom would feel bad if I died participating in a human barbecue stunt, but she would also have to question my intelligence..

There Kids!!! You never felt invincible as a young teenager?

The problem most likely lies within your answer, these kids probably don't have parents at home who feel sorry for them or even care in the slightest. So they turn to rediculous stunts from a movie to gain attention.

Either your part of the solution or your part of the problem.

I grew up watching Roadrunner cartoons, and I never tried to see what it's like to fall off a cliff.

Its the name in the tread guys "Darwin". He was right. Some of us are smart enough to make it, some probably get by on pure luck and a bunch fall by the wayside!

Nope, never! Maybe unusually for someone of my age (I'm 22 now, but my mindset on this has been unchanged for most of my life), but I've always been conscious of my own morality...never been in a fight, never been in serious trouble, and I have every intention of keeping it that way...

Feel sorry for these morons? Nope.

But, someone has to be *blamed*

If I'm not mistaken, "Jackass" was rated 'R'. Therefore, the youths could not have seen the movie :p

I would hold the theater-owner, ticket taker.I.D. checker, and/or video store clerk responsible. If they purchased the movie from a retail outlet, sue the store. :p :p :p

Parents are ultimately responsible, but these kids' parents may be candidates for the Darwin awards as well.

At least that incident happened in Saint Paul, not Minneapolis. Saint Paul is across the river from us. We jokingly refer to it as West Wisconsin (Sorry Ted, don't jump my *****)

Hey EP, haven't seen you in awhile, how's the gf?

I subscribe to this theory. I had loving caring parents but that never stopped me from performing Evil Kneivel stunts on my XR80 around the neighborhood. Would I set myself on fire? No but I did many other things that had they gone wrong it definitely would make the paper.

I still don't think actors, shows or Beavis and Butthead are responsible for others actions are liable for idiotic imitations.

Whether it's poor parenting, just plain stupid kids, or whatever, any kid that sets himself on fire is obviously at the bottom of the intellectual food chain.

I took risks like any teen boy. But, they had SOME calculation to them. I never jumped off a building or other completely idiotic thing. I raced motorcycles, which some might feel is pretty reckless, but I wore a helmet and safety gear.

Do I feel sorry? No! How old were you when you learned fire was hot? About 2 when you saw the candles at christmas or on a birthday cake. Either you learned when you reached for them, or someone told you. I'm 20, I grew up on a farm, where there are pleanty of things to get hurt on. Common sence (should) tell you when you could get hurt, if you lack common sence, you do stupid things like start yourself on fire, and you cant blame anyone but yourself for not having common knowledge. Fire is hot, ice is cold...no one who is 14 should be able to sue anyone for not personally knowing that. I think there should be a set of laws set up that refer to common knowedge, you cant sue someone over simple facts like not knowing fire is hot, moving cars can hurt you, knifes are sharp etc.

Jackass the Movie

I saw the promos for this stupid film, and thought it MIGHT be worth watching on video for $2.00.

So I rented it. It's not worth a damn as entertainment. Mostly, it is just stupid.

Watching a bunch of morons destroy a miniature golf course COULD be funny, perhaps, but it wasn't the way they did it. There are only a few minor chuckles in the entire film, at least in my opinion.

The stunts are poorly thought out and poorly done.
