This is a timely topic.

It was April 20th, 1978. Jimmy Carter was fishing from a canoe in Georgia. All of a sudden, slipping past the Secret Service, a rabbit appeared swimming toward our President, hissing and snarling............

I hunt or fish every single day whether it's a half hour casting at home (we have a 35 acre private lake ) or stomping through a marsh, I work 60-80 hours a week the call of the wild keeps my sanity to a tolerable level. I don't know if you saw the picture pike I caught in our lake last winter that was posted here but the fishing is silly, you actually get board of catching fish.

I have always wanted a hunting cabin and hope to find a place sometime soon. I remember going to Russ Bengals place on Elk Lake, he was known as Mr. Ducks Unlimited if you havn't heard of him google him he was quite the guy. It's was strange as a youngster watching all the guys I looked up to acting like damn fools. Now I would like to be a fool as well.

Heres a quote from Ted Nugent on Russ

All I can tell you GA is that Russ Bengal was a grand gentleman, hero and
BloodBrother of all American sporters. I remember meeting so many great
conservationist at the many DU events I celebrated with Russ, and I can tell
you, any friend of Russ Bengal is a friend of mine. May God rest his soul. In
the wind, he's still alive.

Howdy All,
I don't hunt with guns(too much noise). Don't hunt with bow( can't draw the thing back). But I hunt with my sighthounds on rabbits. Two ways to course rabbits one is in competition where you have the dogs on lead and then release them and they are judged by a person that gives them a score. Then there is free coursing where you just go out and let the dogs loose and watch them work a field. What a thrill it is to watch two great athletes in action.

That sounds like a hoot. My primary Beagle experience is we go hunting; let the beagles out; hunt the the beagles. Without guns of coarse. Those dogs are NUTZ!!!

Howdy RS,
A friend of mine had a Beagle and would bring him out to the desert to free course. The Beagle would "work the bush" and the Salukis would be lurking in the area. When the Beagle would kick up a Jack he would take off after it barking the whole time. That would alert the fast boys and the chase was on. When the Salukis would pass the Beagle he would stop and watch the others run the rabbit. Then the fun would start over again.

I fish all of the time. Fishing is my absolute favorite sport. I live about a 1/2mile from Long Island Sound so I do a lot of saltwater fishing. I also enjoy traveling to lakes and rivers in upstate Conn. Fishing is the best way I know to relaxe and enjoy the outdoors.
Also does anybody here flyfish? Last weekend I went on a nice trout fishing trip. It was the first time I went fishing this year. There is not much better than standing in a stream watching the sun rise on a quiet morning.

Hatterasguy, it's not hard to figure out that you have good taste in boats by your user name

I flyfish whenever I get the urge, but normally it's spin to win. the Looking Glass River flows through our property son every now and then I go down and make a few cast, but I prefer fishing with ultralight rigs for Pike and Bass.

Living in the Great Lake state I used to be a river rat, targeting salmon and steelhead but due to my dislike of the crowds I stick to the inland waters.
