Why do cell phone companies screw over existing customers?
I have this Sprint phone that I really hate and have been looking for a new one. There are a lot of great phone deals, but they require that you activate a new plan, new number, and sign a contract. The contract I don't mind, but I'm being punished by Sprint (by not getting the phone discount) because I like their service TOO MUCH to quit. How stupid is that? I'd think they'd want to offer incentives for people to stay because it seems like a lot of people switch their companies every year just for the free/discounted new phone. Anyone found a way to get around the new account/new number thing to get the price reduction? Thanks.
Alex

Yeah, dump Sprint. AT&T has always given me the same deal as a new customer by extending my existing contract.
But if you want to keep Sprint, try calling the national customer service number and threatening to dump them. You should get more mileage out of that then at then local (possibly independent) store.

Dump Sprint. I used to work for Sprint for several years, so I felt some loyalty in keeping the service.
But my aging phone began to dwindle in signal strength everywhere until it became totally useless. When I decided to check out the newer phones Sprint had to offer, the deals and incentives favored new customers. Existing customers were "punished" for being loyal...activation fees, no returns, etc. So I switched to T-Mobile. When I called to disconnect my Sprint service, they had me on the phone for several minutes asking me why I wanted to dump them. Too late for that!

There are only two companies that service my area. For several years I played ping pong with them for this very reason. As soon as my current company(Verizon) goes all digital and my Startac becomes obsolete, I will probably have to jump again. Silly, isn't it!! By the way, I have a drawer full of cell phones, NEC, Nokia, Motorola you name it. Anybody want to buy one??? I didn't think so!! Oh yeah, my old company sends me a notice every month that I have a fifteen cent credit! I asked them why didn't they just send me a check and they said it was against policy. So I said just write it off and don't worry about it. They said they couldn't. So every month they spend about $2 to tell me they owe me $.15!! Go figure.

I have Sprint and I love the service. I don't feel screwed over by not getting phone discounts from Sprint. The phone discounts are meant to attract new customers and I understand that and it doesn't bother me one bit.
If you really want to buy a Sprint phone cheap then go to Costco. They sell Sprint phones cheaper then Sprint even with Sprints new customer discounts. I purchased my A500 $100 cheaper then any advertised Sprint Store price (including discounts for new customers) plus get all the accesories (car charger, ear piece, belt clip and extended life battery) for free from Costco. You just need to learn where to shop! www.howardforums.com |

Ok here is what you do as told to me by a sprint rep.
Call *2 from your phone and ask to speak to them about a new plan say you want a new phone rebate. If they say no say that you will be switching then they will turn over a new leaf. As long as you have been a good paying customer for a few months you will have no trouble. Also after 9 months your usally eligable for the rebates again Go to a Sprint store if you can. I can't beilve you like sprint I have them and hate it. If I didnt get a great plan I would leave. |

If you really hated Sprint that much or they weren't meeting your needs, you would leave, because no price discount would keep me with someone I absolutely hate. Not even if it was free. |
