Monovalve removal - How to?
I've "searched" and posted the following questions several times and in several ways in the "Tech" forum but can't seem to get a direct response. Phil (from MercedesShop) suggested I try this forum instead. So here goes...
I have a 1988 260E Mercedes-Benz (which is essentially the same as a 300E). 1. To remove the monovalve, do I need to clamp off the hoses or will fluid loss be minimal? 2. How do I remove the pointy rubber connectors that hold the entire monovalve component in place? (Pull, stretch, twist, snap... ??? I don't want to break them off.) Thanks, Techie9 |

Thanks for the link! Sadly, I've looked at this one already and my 124 looks different. I'm not removing the assembly for cleaning or repair, I intend to remove the entire monovalve and replace it. Yours looks like it has two bolts that mount the overall unit...and mine has two pointy rubber plugs of some type that serve as connectors. It's these "simple" connectors that make me hesitant to just start yanking without knowing the proper procedure. I'll go back and re-read your link though and see if it answers my "hose" question. Thanks a lot!

Excellent link - Print and put in book, I am sure that project will pop up one day.

Nevermind
I figured it out.
1. To remove the monovalve, do I need to clamp off the hoses or will fluid loss be minimal? *** Disconnected the wired connector. Loosened the hose clamps. Disconnected the hoses. With cold engine, I had no loss of coolant. 2. How do I remove the pointy rubber connectors that hold the entire monovalve component in place? (Pull, stretch, twist, snap... ??? I don't want to break them off.) *** The rubber "pins" slid outward from the bottom u-shaped bracket, releasing the entire monovalve component. After removing from the car, I forced the rubber pins out of the unit by pulling the pins from underneath while using my thumbnail to force the rubber lip through the hole. Used a pair of channel locks to pull the rubber pins up through the holes in the new monovalve. Techie9 |
