if you ebay, do you "proxy" ?

just curious if anyone who ebays uses "proxy" bidding?

i typically have not, but am thinking it may be better to proxy bid early to remove the emotional rush of last minute bidding.

i have personally seen some VERY strange things on ebay with regard to items, sellers, and bidding, and have heard of even stranger situations.

im starting to think bid early with the $ i would pay, dont even look until auction is over, and either you won or lost.

however, it seems to be human nature to keep the cards closer to the chest.

i have gotten several great deals on ebay, and never paid more than i was origionally comfortable with, but im just a little leary of throwing all the cards on the table early with the proxy bid.

any opinions or experiences? - ben

Bidding

I use proxy when stubborn about what I want to pay for something. I must have bid on 100 "Ding Kings" at $15 before I finally got one. Big Ticket items (cars and the like), if I really am interested I will swoop down with my highest dollar at 20 seconds till end of auction.:D

i use a "sniping" service that works even better. it throws in my max bid automatically with 10 seconds to go in the auction and my puter doesn't even have to be on. it's free unless you you use some of the fancy features....

I didn't know there was another way to bid in eBay. I thought proxy bidding was it. What is the other way?

I liked the eBay feature that showed auctions closing in the next few minutes. I can't find it anymore. I figure they removed it to discourage sniping.

Depends on what I want. I'll proxy bid and wait if there are numerous examples of the item I'm watching. Otherwise, I'll wait untill right before the auction ends, and then put my max bid in, allowing the proxy system to lock my sale. That's how I bought my Daewoo, and it worked out very well.

I really hate those "sniping" services. I've lost out several times on stuff I really wanted.

But, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em, so jsmith, can you share how to get hooked up with one of them?

i just signed up on auctionstealer.com. same principle as proxy (which is still in effect) but you don't actually place the bid until 10 seconds before th end of the auction - even less for a fee but 10 seconds works well for me. my misery at losing decreased about 95% !!!
