The First

I think the 16inch wheels are far better than the 15inch ones. The 15inch ones are better used on a sporty old hot rod, than a Mercedes Benz the size of the Titanic. The 16inch ones feature the style that is more traditional of MB's, especially large body MB's like yours.

I like the stock wheels either the bundt cake pans or the 15 hole.

mm, the "bundts" are hard to keep nice. i know from 300-turbo experience. most of them i see look like s#it.

your choices are very limited in 16" OEM MB wheels. many more options in 15" or newer 17"or> in both OE and AM. again, experience.

you can get the 8-slots in 15" or 16" (AT aftermarket, pretty nice)from tire rack very reasonable. <$500. talk to luke at TR.

as for opinions, all that really matters is what you like/want.

your "big ass gold seedan" might well look good with something that has a little more "attitude" than what many would consider an "appropiate" OE wheel for the year/model.

i do have a couple of PDF files containing MB wheels (including AMG) that came from some kind of accessories brochure if you want it and i can get it zipped to some managable size.

Yes. It doesnt have American Racing Baja Wheels. They are in fact truck wheels , often seen on jeeps too. I saw them on a hot wheels SEL before, and liked the look. To each their own. Trouble is, they cost a fortune, and asthetic touches are last on my list, save for the tinting.

Why not put some AMG monoblock II's? OR AMG 5 spoke 129. They look good on there and make the car look updated. But then again, this advice is coming from a "kid" in his 20's, so your preference may differ slightly

I don't think American Racing makes anything in the unique MB 5x112mm bolt pattern. Besides, those kinds of wheels usually have positive offset. Your car uses negative offset wheels. Outside of fitment issues, positive offset wheels might put loads on the wheel bearings they weren't meant to take.

Which makes me wonder how long wheel bearings last on those lowrider cars with skinny Daytons stikcing out of the wheel wells. Not to mention the jumping.

Being a kid who is _about_ to turn 20, I too think that some AMG wheels look good on it. However, if I had to pay retail for them, even at TireRack, I would have to save for a year, and still might not get them. I would have to save for almost as long to get the Baja's

Thanks for everyone's opinions! I think the Baja's look great, but I am not willing to risk having to fix all those extra parts. If I can get the 16's, I will get them and make my Bundt's the snow wheels.

Keep checking eBay for a set of Miami Vice vintage AMG 5-spoke wheels or Ronal R9s. They came in 15" and 16". The AMGs had slightly slimmer spokes. I sold a wobbly set of R9s on eBay last year to a guy in Canada setting up a Vanagon-style VW crew cab.

Makes me wonder if the Monobloc-style wheels on the Vanagon Carat would fit an MB. Are they even 15s?

Mike, no offense, but I'm having trouble reconciling MB and American Racing in the same sentence

Here's a link to some Vanagon wheel information. Too bad the Carat Wolfsburg wheels are 14s.

Can you post a picture of your replica SL 2 piece wheels? I'd like to see one on a W124.
