Husgvarna with OHC Honda

The old Snapper snapped ,went to town to get new lawn mower ended up with a nice mid cost range Self propeled Husgvarna with a five HP OHC honda engine seems like odd bedfellows but lots of mower brands now use this Honda engine ,got a sneaking feeling it's not the grand old Honda small engine of the past.
In about 1973 I bought my son a mini bike,a honda 50 , That little machine was absolutly indestructable and he did his best trying, drove it in the lake once ,dryed it out changed the oil and gas ran perfect for years and years ........

Sounds like the Honda trail 90 I abused growing up. Ran it dry of oil once(the drain plug came out). Pushed it home, re-filled it, and ran it another 5 years!

My Dad owned a Honda mower years ago (I was the chief operator, of course ). For what he paid for it, I think you could have purchased a CVCC for the same price! Actually, I think it had the same powerplant! :p

That was one tough brute! I tried to sabotage the thing with extremely poor maintenance, but it did no good...ended up mowing the yard with that thing until I left home and got married!

God

I'd kill for a self propelled Honda...

I mow lawns. I am 17. This is my main income. I also work at a Supermarket, but make more money mowing lawns.

I have a "Lawn Boy" with a 6 HP Briggs & Stratton. Sure its loud, but man my dad has had this thing for 6 years, and this year I've been using it for all my jobs (dissassembling the handle, and transporting via 240D) It's non self propelled, which really sucks especially on hills (which was fun today, mowing a 60 degree incline)

Its definitely better than working at the Supermarket..I would 12 hours a week at the supermarket, 6.25 an hour. It equates to like 70 some odd dollars. I mowed two lawns today at 35 a pop, and made 70. And no tax taken out. I have a 20 dollar one, and a 40 dollar one coming up as well.

Any young Benz owners like myself out there? MOW LAWNS! You get lots of money just because people get irritated doing it themselves. I hope to have enough money to put on a new front wind scoop (or have my current one fixed) because it is rusty.

I really like the Hondas. Quiet, powerful..
but

the most fun is the Kubota 3 cylinder diesel rider that I used over at a rather big yard. It's the owner's tractor, boy is that thing fun!

Sorry about my rant...

Kyle

Kyle,

I mowed lawns also when I was your age. That was '84--I'm an old Ft now.

My funniest lawn mowing story was when I was working for this guy one summer. We used his van to stash the mowers and drive around OKC mowing lawns. One day, we kept hearing this "klunk" every time he'd go around a corner. Then we were taking off from a stoplight and we heard the "klang bang klang". That would be the driveshaft falling out of his van. So we stop and work on his van for the rest of the week.

William,

Funny you should mention buying a lawn mower. My 18 year old Toro with a Suzuki 2 cycle engine wouldn't start. I thought it had given up the ghost so I went out today and looked at the new models. One thing I didn't like about the new ones is that the engine stops every time you let go of the handle.

So, being the stubborn DIY'er I am, I decided to give it one try and see if I could breathe new life into the old Toro. I took off the carb, cleaned it and the spark plug and put it back together.

Gave it a sharp pull and vroom! It sprang to life like a new one! This Toro is a tough piece of machinery, just like a Benz. If it ever does give it up, I'll be getting another Toro.
