People driving around with bright lights on <- what to do about them
I am sure all of you have expereinced this, some ********* is tailgating you with there bright lights on, or driving down the highway in the opposite direction and leave them on.
You flash your brights to let them know and they dont care or still dont get it. This drives me NUTS! I am thinking of carrying a 2 million candlepower handheld cordless spotlight in my car. Or i need to take my car to Q at MI-6 and get a smoke screen like in Goldfinger, lol. |

If they are behind you, just pull over and let them pass. Let them go, its not worth your time.
If they are coming toward you, look away, or Put in euro lights with 100/80 W bulbs, if they are coming toward you, just put yours on and leave them on. Be careful they are really high beams because if you put them on and the other person doesnt have high beams, you will feel stupid, and it could be a police officer.

I think the problem isnt the bright lights but the aiming of these lights. A lot of people just buy these high intensity bulbs and throw them on without adjusting the aim. If your aiming is screwed up to begin with, brighter bulbs are just going to exaggerate the problem.
If they are behing me I pull over and let them by. |

I'm with yal, some cars have brighter lights than others, sometimes they are aimed wrong. A couple of times I have been driving on two way highways at night and on comming cars flash their brights at me - telling me to dim mine (I don't have euros and the dealer tells me they are aimed right) so I just flashed back to let them know I was using the lows.

Perfect Solution
Just thought of this last night when faced with a nimwit with his brights on...
We need to find someone here who works for a defense contractor on missle guidance systems - develop an automatic sensor that will detect brights either from the front or rear and can fire a guided paint pellet gun. Fill the pellets with a translucent paint that will dim the lights on impact but not cover them completely and walla! Instant and perminant light dimming!! jlc

What bugs me are the people who drive with their foglights on when they don't need them, and the people who think the foglights on the Turtle are my highbeams.A tip to avoid getting blinded by oncoming traffic is to focus on the white line in your lane.

I agree, this is very annoying and can be dangerous at times. When I was younger I always felt like I just must retaliate in some way against these morons. Give them a taste of their own medicine.
Now though I just let those offenders behind me pass and only occasionally do I give them my high beams when they are in front of me. The oncoming morons, I flash once or twice and I have learned to not look into the lights but instead focus on right edge of the road. |

my big pet peeve is the new Hummer H2's and the new Land Rovers with xenons. It seems that no matter what these headlights ALWAYS get in your eyes, and nobody cares. As far as people driving with brights on, just flip them off, because if they didn't have their brights on, they wouldn't see your finger! (just kidding, of course!)

Gord96Brg has a very good point. I have blue eyes, my wife brown. She almost never wears sunglasses. I on the other hand wear mine almost any day that is brighter than a moderate overcast...she can't understand it.

Recent DOT test has shown that the vision of older people are more sensitive to the blue/white HID lights.
