anyone use Leatherique products?
I applied Rejuvenator Oil to the seat surfaces of the 300SE and 300SDL. I noticed that the cracks in the worn areas are more noticeable after applying Rejuvenator Oil. Put it this way, I can see wear marks where I didn't see them before. I'm letting it soak so I haven't rinsed it off and applied Prestine Clean yet. Will the cracks in the light gray and palomino fade back to obscurity or will they be dark until the oil dries up, however long that takes? I wasn't planning on dying the cracks but now I might have to.
Thanks, Sixto 95 S420 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

Leatherique is endorsed by the Rolls Royce, Jaguar, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz clubs of America as being the best leather/cleaner conditioners out there. Comments like "Don't use it. It's bad. It did not werk on my car ether" don't really seem to be very effective given the number of prestigious car manufacturers who swear by the stuff
I've had brilliant success with Leatherique, but I guess people's expectations vary. My brother's old W115 had filthy leather seats, which now look (and smell) like the fine hides they are - and that's a 25+ year-old car. On my newer W124 with grey-interior - I didn't think they needed cleaning, but was amazed at the amount of dirt that came off on the rag. The seats really glowed afterwards (not shiny - mind you - just supple, clean and fragrant). It's hard to say w/out seeing your seats sixto - it could be accumulated grime was removed by the Oil and the leather really was worn through, in which case a re-dye is the only thing that will bring them back. I'd reccomend another treatment of the rejuv oil, then follow-up with the prest. clean. THe prestine clean in my experience removes the 'oilyness' of the Rejuv. Oil and gives a nice final conditioning/cleaning step that puts a nice satin glow to the leather. Don't give up yet! Also, I don't beleive one must wait until the oil dries completely (although it certainly wouldn't hurt), the Prest. Clean will take car of any residual oil... Regards, - Ryan P.S. Also remember (per Leatherique's literature) The Rejuvinator Oil is meant to push dirt, contaminants, salts to the surface so the Prestine Clean can take it away!

I used Leatherique and Pristeen Clean on my 85 TD and it did, as you say, cause some of the cracks to be more noticeable, but at the same time, it makes the leather much less brittle and likely to split. I refinished my seats and they came out beautiful. I used the dye recommended by Thomaspin on the Diesel Forum. I found the Leatherique on e-bay, and the dye that came with it was dark blue, whereas my seats are palomino.
Important thoughts: use a real bristle (not synthetic brush) the cheap Chinese brushes are fine, so long as they are natural. Thin the dye by about 20%. This makes the brushmarks less noticeable (they disappear after a week or so). The Conditioner makes the leather smell like leather. Good luck!

No question that the seats (and my palms) feel and smell better. It's just that the worn areas look more worn now
The chocolate leather seats of the 300SD look, feel and smell fabulous. Sixto 95 S420 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |

The dye used by Thomaspin and I is made by Colorplus. The palomino was almost a perfect match: different only because it was more vivid than the original.
I used it because the woman in charge assured me that she knew EXACTLY what color I wanted, and did, and the Leatherique info was pretty vague. My seats even had a couple of holes, and I used Surflex to fill them in after backing them up with a piece of leather inserted fuzzy side up. I could have done the bigger hole better if I had cut it into a square, but I patched a sort of iregular keyhole-shape hole and it is slightly lumpy. The hole had been there for a while and the foam rubber under it was a bit lumpy. But it looks a lot better. The hole on the lower outside bolster on the drivers side was a worn lozenge-shaped thing and it is indistinguishible at under six inches. This was my very first leather repair job. I figured what the hell if I don't get it right, I can always get a new piece resewn. There is also a British company that sells via mail. Before I used the Pristeen clean, I rubbed Leatherique conditioner in twice and let the car sit in the Miami sun for 48 hours. Then I used the Pristeen clean. It didn't result in a lot of dirt oozing out. I did notice that the seats had been redyed by someone since they left the Vaderland. I waited a day for it all to dry out completely. Then I sanded with a little Ryobi sander and 180 wet or dry sandpaper, then I vacuumed the whole thing, applied the Surflex three times over the next two days and painted the dye on twice. At first it had some brushmarks, but now there are none. It's great to drive a 1985 car that looks and smells new. I think it's greater than driving a new car that smells new, actually.
