Porsche 914 with bike roof rack
Yup, I was out at a local lake riding my mtn bike and there was a guy out there with a 914 with a bike on top of it.
Now, I realize it's hard to visualize a bike rack that would fit a 914--and this is why would pay to carry a digital camera in the car at all times--but he found a way. The front fork was mounted on a standard pickup mount that he attached to the targa top and the rear was mounted on a little piece of rail mounted on the edge of the engine cover. There's a guy I admire. He's got a passion for cars--and nothing is going to stop him from enjoying the car he loves--and bikes--and nothing is going to stop him from enjoying that either. Sholin

sounds like a good way to "preheat" the tires on the bike.
914- whadda ride! i have a buddy ( i call him dr. porsche) that races a 914 stuffed with a BIG six. what a monster it is. he has graduated up to mostly 911 stuff and thinks he is hot s#it, but i still think the 914 racer is the best car he's produced. |

I looked at a 914 when I was in college. At the time, I drove a datsun 240sx ('79) and really wanted the 914. I think he wanted $4K for it, but it was suffering from rust probs.
I think the 914 is a cool car. I know that some porsche fans don't consider it a true porshce, but it really is. I've also seen a few 6 cyl conversions (other than true 914/6's). I've got not problem with that if you can afford it or a hot VW engine. Maybe I'll buy one someday. At least now I know how to transport the bike. Sholin p.s. The 914 I saw out at the lake was no beat up piece of junk. This was absolutely pristine with the exception of the bike rack.
