Registration in Cali
Hey guys,
I am taking a year off of school to focus on a resotoration of a Datsun 510. I think I have found the perfect donor vehicle in San Jose for around $800. It is basically a rolling shell... perfect for a radical engine transplant! Anyway, the trouble is, it hasn't been registered in almost 10 years. I assume that he has a pink slip or some sort of "bill of sale". But it is my understanding that if a car is simply abruptly pulled from the road, with out ever creating a "non operational notice/waiver/dealio" for the DMV, the car will become "illegal" per se. I am wondering what it would take, effort wise and financially, to bring this car back to registered status. Sorry I cant provide any more info about the status of the vehicle ... this is all I know. Thanks for any advice! |

Check out http://www.dmv.ca.gov/vr/vr_info.htm#BM2512
Seems like $160 in penalties plus another ~$200 in registration fees. Might put you in the price range of a running 510. Even at $800 I'd take a 240Z shell over a 510 shell. They're out there. But let me get this straight, you're taking time away from school to work on a car? I hope you're a teacher. Sixto 95 S420 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD |
