When did the forum start?
I was just wondering when the forum was originally started, and with how many people it was started with?

Should I start this thread anywhere else so they might see it sooner?

I'd use the "contact webmaster" button on the bottom of the page and bring it to his attention.

I think this forum was started in 1999...when I joined in 2000, there was around 500 users or so...

Just click on the members button on the top right side of the page. Then sort by date joined.

Hey Webmaster, how many people did the forum start with? Also, did it have all of these rooms and the Moderators at the start?
Thanks Tim |

Bill is busy running MBAutowerks, so he probably doesn't have time to answer stuff like this. If you do what Kuan said, list the members by date joined, and go to the last page you can see when everybody joined. The forum started off with nobody but Bill and Donnie. M.B.Doc joined soon after and is still here answering questions and helping people.
When the forum started it did not have all the separate areas it has today. There was only the one bulletin board for technical help. It wasn't until several months (a year?) later that it was reorganized, implemented with new software, and split into the various forums. In the early days I used to read every post every day, and it only took a few minutes. It's become impractical to do that anymore, so it looks like most people just concentrate on one or two forums.

I remember when I first found this site, that I was able to look through each and every post withing a day or two.
Like Rick said, there were only a few sections. No open discussion, no vintage, not diesel, and no SL's. I don't remember if the cars/parts for sale was one section or two seperate ones...I think it was just one. I have seen different moderators come and go. I've gotten alot of help, and learned tons. I hope that I was able to pass on some of what I have learned here in my 4+ years, and that I will continue to be able to do so. I even remember seeing Larry Bible post on Sven's W123 site, before he found this one. (I had sent him an email pointing him here, but I don't know if he ever got it, or if he found it himself). I became a member here with one MB ('83 300D), and (I just realized) added one per each additional year of being a member here.....And I blame you all! Thanks for everything! -Larry

Almost by accident, I read everything posted weekly on two other forums (forae?). But since my knowledge on technical forums (forae?) is embarrassingly limited, I just lurk and learn. Thank you Mercedesshop. B |
