Question Harpists?

Ok. This one is kinda wierd. Probably won't get any responses. but....
Anybody here play the harp?(yes, I'm serious) I love the instrument, and am thinking of learning to play. I used to play the guitar many moons ago, so have a basis in music. I'm just wondering how difficult they are to learn.

We play all sorts of instruments in our family (well, actually, I do), and we'd like to add a harp to the mix.

I'm not sure what it takes, since I don't know any other instrument that quite fits in the same family.

They seem to be a bit expensive to own as well!

If nothing else, I want one for display in the formal living room, next to the grand piano...

Hey! I got a response
Yeah, nice ones are very spendy! But there are places you can get them in kit form and save a few bucks, plus have the fun of building it. And they come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, and price ranges.
And if nothing else, dazzle your guests with the sucker sitting next to the grand piano

I surfed for harps not too long ago...depending on what you want, you can get one for as low as $100 to over $30K for the elaborate concert pedal versions!

Aren't you supposed to die first before you play the harp? :p Are you going to take this up immediately after jumping out of a perfectly safe airplane??:p :p

When I was a kid I used to play the jews-harp. [Sorry, I don't know it by any other name. Does it actually refer to Jews?]

I don't play it anymore because I'd hate to chip the $3,000 bridge the dentist put in last year!!

Those are actually called a "jaw harp".

There's a place downtown Seattle that sells harps in kits. I'll have to take a run down one day when I have an extra grand or so burning a hole in my pocket.

Good advice Narwhal. I'll check the local community colleges and see what they have.

I played the drums. No one sat near me.

Still sort of play...usually banging on books and the guitar case of the guy I'm jamming with.

From a pro

As a professional musician....

I believe that learning the harp is not an easy exercise. Do you read music? Do you own a station wagon? I don't know a single harpist who doesn't own either a station wagon or a minivan.

Regarding the French Horn. Do you know why girls don't trust horn players? Think about how they hold the horn.
