190 Amg!!

saw a 190E that had a "SEC" badge welded on the end. then it also sported an AMG badge on the right too. i was thinking there is no such thing as a 190sec is there? is this a MB owned by a rice boy perhaps? (actually he was a middle aged fella). any similar stories? are people starting to rice up their benzes now?

AMG has tuned the W201 (190E) since '84, with engine mods and their own body kit and interior trim. The development included puting the 3.2L inline 6 into the chassis. ("Baby Hammer" or "Mallet") There was no "SEC" badging.

SEC grill conversions are very common. There's one for sale over in the classifieds of www.190revolution.net and other places. There are SL and SEC grill inserts, whole grill replacements (chrome frame and insert), and the current "rage", taking a C-Class grill and welding/blending onto the 190 hood.

You have to consider that the W201 was an entry level Mercedes (still, it sold for over $20K new) and by this time has wound up in the hands of some younger owners who have eschewed the Civic/Integra/Sentra crowd and have gone Euro. They're going to want the "bling" and the "fast & furious" like their V-Tec brothers, but for the most part, they're learning that rice doesn't go with everything.

With a production run of 200 or so, they are much more rare than the 502 Evo and Evo II's built. I'm sure one will surface eventually.
