Question C-Spot Drive Party...anyone heard of this?

Hello! I got an E-mail from Daimler-Benz about something they're calling The 2003 Mercedes-Benz C Spot Drive Party. Has anyone else gotten anything like this? If so, did they go and how was it?

Thanks!

Fellas,

There is one coming up this weekend, August 31st in Berkely. I registered with my friend and get to rip up the C-class. I think only 20-30 people are going to be there. I'll let u guys know how it goes.

Yeah I went a coupla months back here in Houston. They have a big production where they bring out a bunch of C's and put them on a huge Parking lot. Set up a few courses and allow you to do simple manuvers in some of the cars. They have a high speed area with the C32's and semi Pro type drivers giving rides to those who want to experience the sound/speed of the C32. I repeat, you cannot DRIVE the C32, you are strictly a passenger! They provide finger food, refreshments and such. I fell that it would even qualify as a pleasant outting for you and your lady. Sorta Ritzy, so she'll like it. Best thing to do is when you get there, go straight to the car rides/drives. You can see the presentation anytime...or not. I'm not interested in buying a C so I skipped the movie.

Fellas,

I just got back from the C-Spot Drive. It was great! There are three areas where u can play.

The first area was a wet traction, where they allow you to test the 4matic on the C class. I found that the 4matic works great in wet conditions, even for the wagon.

The next area is the one called Dangerous Curves. They let u drive the car of your choice, (any non C-Class AMG, of course) around a course with a slalom and pretty sharp curves. Again, I found the 4matic to handle the best. The 230 Kompressor was a bit underpowered, but handled better than the C320 because it had less weight in the front due to the smaller engine.

Last was the area where u got to sit in a C32 and be driven around the track by a professional driver. Boy, does the C32 fly and handle superbly around the corners!

I did each event a few times, testing out every car I could get my hands on. At the end of the even, they gave you a bag that contain a few goodies such as a MB cap. I love it!

Oh, one more thing. They had a demonstration race from 0-100-0 with the C32 vs. the M3. The C won, of course, but how truthful is it? The C32 is rated at 349 HP whereas the M3 only has 333 HP. Shruggs.

Overall, it was a great even, well organized. There were no sales pressuring there. They knew you were there to drive and that's what they gave you. The food was great also! Many bite sized goodies!

I'm actually going tomorrow afternoon. Thats a bummer that you don't get to drive the C32, but since a good friend of mine has one and lets me drive it whenever I want its no great loss. As far as a C32 beating an m3, well they do. My buddy with the C32 raced a 2002 M3 smgII last december and beat him easily both times. They are very quick though, when you floor it before you know it, you're doing 130! Whoops!

Angry My Rant........

Okay, I just got back from the c-spot drive. To say that I was dissapointed would be an understatement. I knew beforehand that we wouldn't be allowed to drive the C32's and thats not that big of a deal but when my boyfriend was testing the C320 coupe, he got the tires to squeal a little bit and when he got back he got majorly chewed out by one of the guys sipervising. He basically said "We're not here to puch the cars." What the hell is that about? Why did we go in the first place? To look at their comfy interiors? No way!

So when we finally did get to ride in the C32, the guy drove like a grandma. He didn't even get the back end to kick out. In conclusion the event wasn't really worth the 30 minute drive down there. In my opinion, I think that mercedes should let their cars be pushed. Why do they claim such great times and handling when you aren't expected to even feel it. I've heard about other car companys including BMW and Chrysler who let the people drive the cars hard. I wish mercedes would stop gearing their market towards grandparents who don't know where the gas pedal is. Its a mercedes, its meant to be driven.

Another interesting point, at BMW events they have competitor's cars, and encourage to push them and see the difference. Here they complain if you engage the traction control coming around a turn, and the only other brand car there was a Plymouth minivan picking up cones...

I agree!!!!!!

My friend and I went a couple of weeks ago and we had enjoyed the cars and the event right up til the last trip where my friend (really it wasn't me) took out a cone. When we came back a guy chewed us up right there in front of the crowd. I got pist and went right into the tent and asked for the person in charge. I dragged him out to the tent with the official and I made it clear that we had come here to have fun under save conditions and that we had enjoyed it right up til this incident. The manager had to apologize to my friend in front of the dude who had just made his mature point. He was very surprised as was the crowd I believe. So what if you take out a cone once????????
If you keep doing it, that's another situation. We had spent 3 hours and several test drives with no incident.

I must said I agree with the previous poster....
I am still waiting for my AMG challenge invite!!!!!
