West Nile, Mosquito Deleto/Mosquito Magnet

Two years ago my neighbor at my old house, decided to try the Mosqquito Deleto that was on sale at Lowes. He had a dog that was so old and fragile, the vet suggested not giving it heart worm pills anymore. We had adjoining partially wet back yards that was a great home to millions of small black mosquitos. If you went into the back yard at 5 in the evening without first putting on a repellant, you would absolutely be bitten within a minute or two. If we were having a bbq I would buy an insectacide that I would sprinkle on the yard. It cost $10.00 each time I did it. It was like living next to a swamp. The new machine was absolutely successful. Within four weeks, our yards were clear of the pests. They only came back when he forgot to replace the propane bottle when it ran out. When we moved to a new neighborhood this spring, one of the first things I bought was a Mosquito Deleto. They are great! They work by attracting insects by emitting carbon dioxide and also by creating body temp heat. When they get next to the machine an attractant brings them into a sticky surface. This thing works so well, and West Nile seems to be such a worry for a lot of people, I am surprised that there isn't more written about the machines.

Narwhal, We had an extensive garden also. Thats why we only used the insecticde as needed. One of our gardens was a butterfly attracting garden and that insecticide would have killed all of them. There are beneficial insects too and that liquid death that you use gets them all. I highly recomend the lp powered mosquito killers. They discriminate against mosquitos!

I have a Mosquito Magnet on the forecast next spring, It wouldn't be too effective this year because we should have a frost soon to wipe them out. I have heard good things about it as well. I have been told that the Magnet is better than the Coleman model.

I have the Coleman which if I remember right is called the deleto.I bought it at Lowes. It cost about $100 less than the other one that Home depot sells. What I have learned is that it takes time for it to work. You don't notice any differance for two weeks. By then you have killed off most of the breeders. After six weeks you don't see any mosquitoes. A tank of propane lasts about 6 weeks. I think my unit only covers 1/2 acre. The Home depot unit is supposed to cover an acre I think.
I think this is one of the most successful pieces of technology that I have seen put to work. As I said before, I am surprised that I don't hear more people raving about it.

my wife works for Schagrin gas that, as a side, sells all kinds of gas appliances. they also sell mosquito magnet. It was personally tested by the owner for 2 month. he tested mosquito deleto for 2 days and returned it. Magnet is precisely calibrated to imitate human body. within a week it cleans-up up to an acre for the whole summer. Deleto simply does not work.

Deleto wouldn't work in 2 days. For that matter neither would Magnet because it has to work through at least one breeding cycle whatever that is. My deleto does work and my neighbors worked for two summers at my old house.

Face it, you talked yourself into it. Deleto does not work. However, it's cheaper, so people simply WANT to believe it works just the same. Check the Consumer Report (don't remember a month, but it was 2003) - they agree with me!

OKKKKKKK, I talked myself into believing that the little black biting insects that had always jumped onto my body soon after going into my backyard were no longer doing that. I guess I also talked myself into the mosquitos returning when the neighbors propane bottle ran out and then they left again shortly after he refilled the bottle. I must be one persuasive TALKER!
