My second home

People often wonder why on earth we in Edmonton live where we do. However, there are some valid reasons. We have reasonable housing prices, relatively light traffic (compared to many big cities) low unemployment (lowest in Canada) and a terrific park system.

For me, it's that we're just a few hours from the Rockies.

That's me digging in my pack on Wilcox Peak.

Burning another roll of film...

It was a great weekend, and I'll have my own film back in the next couple days.

Nice pics John.

Our hills over here are a bit smaller.

Yes, it amazes me people seem to *want* to pack into cities when they have an option. Some people spend a million on a house in a city a few feet from their neighbour, they can hear them go to the bathroom. Beats me.

I really like the city and the mountains. At my home in Denver, I can walk to a restaurant, grocery store, cinema, bookstore, library, auto parts store etc. But within a 45 minute drive we have mtns and hikes like John was enjoying.
Concentrating the population in cities with easy access to life's necessities, while leaving vast tracts of wilderness alone does not seem to be a bad idea.

Doesn't Edmonton have the biggest shopping mall in the world?

Over 800 stores, a huge waterpark, indoor submarine rides, and indoor amusement park, and on and on and on.
